Re: Crows Disgrace

The Power must be pissing themselves laughing in the last couple of years, the best marketing they've ever done is just sit back quietly while the Crows deliver one **** up after another.

Re: 2014 Tribunal News & Discussions

It's at 11:25 of the 'Recovery Session' video on the SANFL site.

Barmby could have contested the ball, Phillips was blindsided because he only had eyes for the ball, Barmby decided to go the body instead and hit Phillips with an elbow to the head. That's bad news every day of the week at the Tribunal, or should be, regardless of whether the SANFL Tribunal is now following the path of the AFL. The only real question is whether it's classed as negligent or reckless. I would be flabbergasted if Barmby plays this week. He might as well give it a go at the Tribunal, though, as he could well do better than 3.

Re: Rnd 5 - West v Central @ City Mazda (Sun 3/5*)

Yeah, how does that work then. Westies ask for an extra day because of the Foxtel Cup and then go and play a bunch of ressies.
I'd ask for the game to be moved back to Sat if I was Centrals. A bit of an insult by West.

Re: R5 - West v Central Post Match

Well done bloods. Any match reports?
No reports from the umps
But Scott Bricknell was taken from the ground with a very sore arm..... Trainers were supporting the area between the wrist and elbow.
Westies off to a flyer led 6-0 to 0-3 first quarter... had seven inside 50s!
Centrals kicked their first 11 minutes into the second.....
The game was goal for goal until the last quarter with Westies having a 33 point buffer....
Their defensive stuff was great.... Hartlett and Milne very good....
Central method into attack was poor - but this was a reflection of westies pressure on the ball carrier.
First 20 minutes of the last quarter each team scored two points
Westies kicked the last five... Still kicked three in four minutes.
(he spent some of the third quarter on the bench - maybe part of rotations.)
Westies looked very pleased (obviously) after the game - first win etc....
Roy spent a long time with the Bullies behind locked doors after the game and was not happy!
Mark Mickan would have been pleased with intensity

Re: AFL in the SANFL discussion/debate

How does the salary caps of the crows and port teams work?

From memory the crows topup players get $100 a game.

How does it work for port?
Here are Adelaide's conditions...

Top Up players – leadership player
- AFC can contract one ‘leadership’ player per season.
- 28 years and over, must have been on AFC AFL list.

Top Up players – other
- SANFL Clubs can opt in / out of providing top up players to the AFC.
- SANFL Clubs must make the decision on in /out by November 1st.
- Should SANFL Clubs chose to opt in, they agree to always have a minimum of 2 players available for selection for the AFC.
- These players will be:
o 18 – 22 years old, on an SANFL Club list
o Selected at start of pre-season in conjunction with SANFL Clubs
o AFC and SANFL Clubs to review at conclusion of Rd 6 and Rd 12
o Cannot play against the player’s home SANFL Club
o Receive a match payment of $100
o AFC to access further ‘top up’ players from community football. These players are not to have played at SANFL level for a minimum of 18 months and will receive $400 per match.
- Top up player system to be reviewed annually.
- Should the PAFC enter a team in the SANFL League Competition with the same on field regulations as the AFC, this would need to be reviewed.

http://www.sanfl.com.au/news/sanfl_news/2179/

Here are Ports conditions...

Top Up players – leadership player
• Port Adelaide Magpies support team can contract one ‘leadership’ player per season.
o 28 years and over, must have been on PAFC AFL or PAMFC list.

Top Up players – ‘Magpies listed’ contracted players
• Port Adelaide Magpies to provide a list of 15 players at the start of the season who can play at SANFL league level – contracts to be lodged with SANFL. (18 and above with no age ceiling to apply).
• Such players receive a maximum of $400 per match at SANFL league level, $100 at reserves level.

http://www.sanfl.com.au/news/sanfl_news/2228/

Port didn't have any restrictions on age of top players and they were allowed to choose players already in the SANFL unlike the Crows. How Port were ever let in under different conditions astounds me. It is completely unfair. On top of this on any given day Port or Crows could have a player running around on a salary that is higher than the entire SANFL team they are playing.

Re: AFL in the SANFL discussion/debate

This is why I'm so pissed off about it. I could almost live with it if both teams had the same conditions, but the SANFL have basically handed Power Reserves the premiership.

Re: The 2014 season no AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

Not to mention that some of these kids are then playing against the clubs they were drafted from in the first place which increases the disadvantage again.

You do realize that once they CHOOSE to nominate for the draft and CHOOSE to leave their SANFL clubs, they are no longer your players... so that means that the argument of them playing against their own club null and void....
Incredible that you fail to comprehend the simplest of points

Re: Round 7 - Port Magpies v South @ Alberton inc Post Matc

cheating implies a breach of the rules. Which rule? Yep that's right none of them. I am not going to lower myself to call you a wanker, you are not, you are that little stain on the sheet after the wank.
Dols, you are right, you are not cheating, you are only playing under the guidelines in which you were set by the powers to be - pardon the pun.

Regardless of what conditions the Magpies are playing under, do you feel that it is an even playing field the rest of the competition is up against? Don't you want to have your side be the best in an even and fair playing field or are you happy to gloat in the domination of your side that has clear and unfair advantage?

Perhaps go and ask some of your former club legends how they REALLY feel about the current set-up and domination of the SANFL competition?

One Club, One Inequitable Advantage.

Re: The 2014 season no AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

The thing is though, if port were also down the bottom there would be no whinging in this thread whatsoever. It would be "sucked in, this what you wanted." People worried about two (or three) sets of rules wouldn't say a word

Smells of a little sour grapes at this point in time. But also shows that it doesn't take much to turn a really bad side into a really good one. Bottom end depth vitally important.

Crap, people are just as pissed off about the Crows as they are about the Power, ladder positions are irrelevant in the argument IMO, both teams/clubs are wrecking the league competition just by being part of the fixture.

I said before the start of this that their competitiveness would all come down to the size of their AFL injury list, and thats the way it is playing out.

Re: The 2014 season no AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

Just emailed this to Chris Davies.

Hi Chris,

I know your job is to sell the concept of the two reserves teams being a meaningful part of the SANFL but for a vast majority of SANFL supporters you are fighting a losing battle, to put it mildly and politely. Enough has been written about the destruction of integrity, the insurmountable distortions of having three different sets of rules for the teams that it doesn't need repeating here.

This season was always going to go Ok, ok being the operative word here, your employers couldn't afford it not to. However it claim crowds are up doesn't help your cause especially when it's such a risibly small number and bolstered by one off events like Walker playing for the Ravens on a long weekend.

What's more concerning are membership numbers and the crowds at games between the eight remaining SANFL teams, across the board they are down. You may point to TV figures but given our massive investment in the coverage you'd be concerned if they hadn't improved. And this investment came at a time we were told without the two AFL teams financial armageddon would engulf the remaining teams.

What's missing in all of this is the long term view, after you, John and the rest of the Commission have long departed. How you expect the eight clubs to attract members after five or ten years of having two afl clubs sucking up every kid, dollar and inch of media attention is beyond me.

The challenge for the decision makers at the SANFL over the last few years has been to subtly reposition the competition as a community based, affordable alternative to the AFL. The example of Phil Herden at The Eagles should have been your template for community engagement and involvement. Instead you, and Leigh and John, chose to take the easy option of shoehorning two teams who have destroyed the integrity and meaning of the SANFL into the competition. By doing so you have destroyed any chance of the SANFL being a meaningful, relevant sporting competition not only today but into the future.

Enjoy your nice seat and Rockford's Basket Press tonight.

Sincerely,
by topsywaldron

Re: The 2014 season no AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

I'm not sure it's Benny who is incapable of understanding the topic at hand.
And according to you we were all overreacting when we predicted the AFL would put reserves sides in the SANFL. Your attitude of there's nothing wrong just close your eyes and ignore the forces eating up the SANFL is fuelled primarily by your greater love of the AFL.
I happen to love the SANFL and I really don't get why we need to be advised by people who clearly have no feel for the comp about how we should react to the continued insults inflicted on it.
But the Crows and Power have what they want, stuff the rest of us hey.

Re: Round 9 - Port v Central (Alberton) - Sun 8/6

Good to see Wagner's already got his own face book page to like with such a big impact on the competition so far.
I'm tipping Johann to kick at least 50 goals and the Dogs to get up by 60 goals, anything less will be a big disappointment after the lead up to Wagner's debut.

Im wont make it today as stuck working at the Aquadome.

But i did notice across the road that the police escort to Alberton for Johann had just left.

At first glimpse it appeared there were more spectators there today than for the royal visit a couple of months ago.

I also heard tomorrows Public Holiday is actually to honour Johann Wagners SANFL debut.

What a man, what a man, what mighty good man.

Re: The 2014 season no AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

Yes, no doubt Port Adelaide people will be very happy with the whole scenario.
Why wouldn't they be?
They haven't lost anything - expect the $$$ that were used to keep the Magpies afloat this Century.
I am sure they are extremely happy - zero in 2013 to hero in 2014

We Need You South

On behalf of the entire SANFL community we need you South. We need you to keep the AFL out of our sacred and historic Grand Final.
The Norwood Football Club did their job tonight so PLEASE South finish them off next week.
We will all be on your side and I believe many Norwood supporters, in fact many, many neutral supporters will be at the game cheering for you.
All of us are Panther supporters for a week.

Norwood will take a dive in tomorrows final and have been probably well paid for it !
The first final in my 50 yrs following I have no interest in .
I hope they deserve each other and belt the living daylight out of each other.

BREAKING NEWS

"We interrupt this live coverage of Tropical Cyclone Frankenstein to report that Tex Walker has just bought a hotdog from Wendy's. Let's cross now to Andrea Anderson in Rundle Mall, where a small crowd is now gathering to see if he has used tomato sauce, mustard or both.
We'll be back in Darwin following this story to see if the handful of buildings not yet obliterated by Frankenstein's menacing winds are still standing.
Over to you Andrea!!!"

"Yes, thanks Harry! Well it's fun, fun, fun here in Rundle Mall...."

Re: Rumour re Media Coverage

Trying to see the Elimination Final replay now on 7Plus, and under the Norwood v Central title they have only the Port v Sturt game. Anyone accidentally find this game somewhere else?

Who is charge of quality control at Plus 7?

7 Plus.JPG
I reckon you're being a bit precious. The teams are pretty much the identical.

Norwood and Sturt are eastern suburb toffee-nosed latte-sippers with some blue on their jumper, and Port and Centrals are ferals from the wrong side of the tracks with premiership dynasties and a bit of white on their jumper. Easy for the work-experience programming manager at Channel 7 to get them confused.
