Vale Michael Hossack
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Michael Hossack, who passed away on Monday, 26 January, after a long and courageous battle with illness.
In true Michael fashion, he fought right to the end, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Michael’s contribution to the Western Youth Centre Cricket Club is simply immeasurable. He began his journey with the club as an Under 13 player at just 11 years of age and went on to play both A Grade and B Grade cricket. He was a two-time premiership player, including being part of the club’s first senior premiership team in the 1968/69 B Grade season. A talented leg-spin bowler, Michael won the club bowling trophy in 1973/74 and received multiple club awards throughout his playing career.
Off the field, Michael was the backbone of the club. He served as Secretary for 35 years (1972–2007) and dedicated over 20 years of service to Western Youth Centre Inc. In recognition of his extraordinary commitment, he was awarded Life Membership of the Western Youth Centre Cricket Club in 1978, Life Membership of Western Youth Centre Inc in 1989, and was inducted into the Club Hall of Fame in 2023.
Michael was truly part of the DNA of our club. His leadership, guidance, and unwavering dedication helped shape the strong reputation and success of the Western Youth Centre Cricket Club for generations to come.
His legacy, and the Hossack family name, will forever remain deeply woven into the fabric of our club.
On behalf of everyone at the Western Youth Centre Cricket Club, past and present, we extend our deepest condolences to the Hossack family during this difficult time.
