Re: North Melbourne

If you don't show signs of getting back to winning consistently, ultimately crowds at games starts to dwindle along with membership.
I can't see that happening in the short term.

I can feel a board spill or some sort of coup in the wind.

We are at our lowest ebb yet our membership is at a record level, but don't let facts get in the way of good spin

Re: 2022 AFL Season

Not sure where to ask this.

Does the dollars & length of the contract Brodie Grundy is currently on have to stay the same if he moves clubs. Can he agree to a new contract at a different club for less money & length. Eg if his current contract has 5 more years at 1.5 million a year, can he agree to a 3 year 1 million a year contract.

Why on earth would he do that?
Because apparently he wants out of Collingwood.
I didn't ask if he should, I asked can he.
Plus, it's fair to say he hasn't performed to the standard he was at when he signed the initial 7 year deal
Sam McClure trying to remain relevant.
This muckraker should have his accreditation removed.
I wouldn't believe a thing that comes out of his mouth.

Oh that down the ground free resulting in a Geelong goal was horribly soft.
That umpire should be dropped to the VFL next week for that.

Out of the whole game that's the one you pick out?

Re: Adelaide 2021

Case in point, AFL 360 last night!
All they talked about was the camp like it was the only chapter in the book.
Eddie himself had to several times say hey its only one chapter in the book.
But Robbo had to keep going over old ground. Like he was trying to get him to cry.(ratings driven)
I wanted to hear something enlightening about his transition from being a naughty little boy to being a genuine star.

I'm really wish the media would do what their actual job is
Report on the actual game and leave the offield stuff alone.

700 accredited media, that's almost 1 per player.
All of them career climbing, hoping for that big scoop.
Hounding players constantly, contributes to poor mental health, which in turn means they play shit footy.

I guess Port people are fed up of getting our heritage dismissed because we expanded into another comp.

Yet you turn a post about doing the opposite of that into an argument about being dismissed on your heritage. The chip on the shoulder must be heavy.

Re: Play HQ

Where the F is all the money going and what are we getting for it in return?

Last year it was $130/senior team and $65/junior team for insurance, this year it is $22.50 per player. They tell us its more than just insurance, what is it? My club has 4 senior teams so last year that was $520, we will use probably around 70 players this year, thats $1575.
I have a feeling all the grass roots players are paying for the increase in the salary cap of the BBL. there is no way the BBL is self funding anymore

Then i just noticed on top of that Play HQ take another $3 something
The $22.50 is made up of 3 or 4 different amounts that cover various things, one of them being insurance. I've had a look online and can't find the breakdown of it.

The $22.50 National Registration Fee covers two items:
$13.00 is player insurance (or $6.50 for juniors).
$9.50 is for the website upkeep, or as CA have stated:

The remainder of the fee ($9.50) helps fund improved technology, including the new PlayHQ platform, that will upgrade the digital experience of clubs and players, make administration easier and save time for volunteers.

Hard to read the second half of that quote without laughing.

So there is a money grab when it comes to the insurance.
Then there is a money grab with respect to the digital improvement fee.

But the worst part for me is the way they've funnelled all payments online.
Previously my club just posted the BSB and account number and everyone paid into the account.
Now you do it through the portal, and PlayHQ takes a further 1.80%.
So of your $300+22.50 subs, only $294.60 makes it to the club, with $5.40 pocketed by PlayHQ.
So $5.00 from every player in the country.
HTF can we stop this shit from happening.

Re: AFL Round 4

Tom Lynch gets off also

RESIGN IMMEDIATELY MICHAEL CHRISTIAN

I think the AFL have created a monster. A player gets hit in the head = must be reportable. The club takes the matter to tribunal because the act itself isn't dangerous and gets off.

What's the AFL's actual stance on the head being sacrosanct? If it's that a player gets hit in the head, it's reportable, then fix the rules so that the tribunal has no option but to suspend the player. Till then, we'll have this grey area.

I think the issue lies in the fact the punishment is far more weighted against the outcome than the action. (i guess that is reflective of the legal system but not sure it works as well in a sports sense)

In the McKay incident, there wasn't a lot of damage done but that action imo was very dangerous and somewhat a non-footballing action. It wasn't a bump (tucked in elbow) , wasn't a tackle it was a raised arm/elbow.
Why didn't he just spoil the ball off the boot? He had the time. But his eyes were on cheezels and intention was to take the body.

Re: Ashes 2023

Does anybody really think that Smith would tell any suits at CA what they were up to?
I highly doubt it, especially the sandpaper use.
Common sense tells me the whole playing group knew so no need to put that in a book.
Pretty certain Lehman would've known, but again did he know they were using sandpaper? I doubt that.

If Warner comes out with a book detailing all it will open up litigation so he'd want to be very careful.

Re: Hawthorn

I'm stuck on the comment " telling us an unborn baby will ruin our lives".
I wonder how many non indigenous young players were told the exact same thing?

I'm sure plenty of parents have said the same thing to their youngsters.
And, don't hang around those kids because you'll end up in trouble.

Im sure there's more to the story, but this just smacks of a witch hunt.
It's different mate, because Aboriginal people were removed from families purely because of a plan to breed the black (culture) out of them by the Government.
It hits pretty close to home for me as I was one of those people the government almost successfully bred the black out of with both my father and grand mother being a part of the stolen generation.
Being taken away from your family is one thing but being taken away from your culture is another.
I'm still yet to connect back to my people and land but am in the process of doing it.
Because of this no white person in authority can even insinuate an Aboriginal would be better off without a family member or child.
It's an extremely upsetting thing.
I hope that gives you a little bit of insight as I find the subject quite disturbing and won't comment anymore.
Respect.

Re: AFL Season 2023

Good to see the afl are serious about head high hits.
He tried to knock his block off.
They could have made an example of him here but they’re weak as piss.

McGuire on Footy Class last night, Lloydy was talking about a kid playing in Calrton's VFL side and how he could come in to create some midfield run, McGuire said "Would they be concerned, like that kid from Fremantle who De Goey fixed up , can't remember his name, didn't get his hands up to protect himself "

The bloke is simply not there.
Love Ed but that's pretty poor.
I do agree however that he should've given the handball while turning his body.
Some players have forgotten the art of self preservation. (Without shirking it)
We were all taught how to protect ourselves as juniors, but it seems to be a lost skill now.
I know the game has sped up considerably but blokes don't seem to have an awareness of who's coming sometimes.

Re: Over rate in Test cricket

Over rates are not going to improve because of drs, hydration breaks (umpires can't stop it for health reasons) and captains taking forever to set a field
Apparently test cricket is in danger of becoming irrelevant. Why? Because there's far too many periods of inactivity.
As everyone says, Warner Smith and co changing gloves and getting a drink every 20 minutes is just ridiculous.
You get a drink on the hour unless it's bullshit hot or you're injured.
If you have to bowl 2 spinners for the last hour to get to the 90 then the umpires should be telling the captain to do so.
If you don't make the 90 then the skip can't play next game...simple!!!

Re: Ashes 2023

Given the circumstances the day before I can understand why the Aussies didn’t recall him. What we don’t want to see though is keepers having regular pins trying to catch a batsmen a split second out.

As a sh!tty wicket keeper, ah yes we do if a batsman is not staying in his crease until over has been called.

but it's done with risk as a it may lead to a bye if I miss or it deflects aw away from a fielder.

What's the difference between me coming up to the stumps to keep a batsman in his crease and to increase chances of an LB vs throwing a ball at the stumps to try and get rid of a lazy batsman?

The batsman has every right to take liberties but I've got the right to keep them honest.
Exactly!
If Carey was up the stumps would Bairstow wander out of his crease?

Re: Ashes 2023

All this talk about changing the rules for one very sloppy cricketer who has a history of being a slackass.
It's the batters responsibility to know the ball is dead before he wanders off.
The umpire contributed because he wasn't watching the play.
The ball wasn't dead because Carey had a throw at the stumps as soon as he gloves it.

The MCC should throw out the idiots chanting cheats as the players went through the long room.
Personally, I would've lost my shit!
Being called a cheat in your face over a decision made by the umpires is about as low as you can go.
England have been outplayed and outsmarted in both games so far and they are not liking it at all.
Maybe a few of the members had big bucks on the result?

For Australia to win without Lyon is a bloody good result.
