Re: AFL 2024

Having an Opening Round before Round 1 is easily and by miles the stupidest thing I've ever heard of in this competition.
And that doesn't even take into account the huge advantage 8 teams will get with a competitive game under their belt going into "Round 1".

The stupidest thing I've ever seen in the competition is the introduction of four umpires. That will continue to be the stupidest thing about the competition until they introduce five.

regards,

REB
You could have 6 thousand umpires and it still wouldn't be as stupid as having an opening round before Round 1.

Re: AFLW 2023

I'm amazed with how much the standard has continued to improve despite spreading the talent further.

Game today was awesome to watch. Good crowd too, I watch every Cats game religiously and love watching the girls.
Proud that my daughter drove all the way up from south of Geelong to Melbourne to watch the game with many friends today too.
The Karens that used to put down the women's game should well and truly be dead by now hopefully.

Re: INS and OUTS for 2024

The North Adelaide Football Club are thrilled to announce that Cody Raak will join the Roosters in 2024.

Name: Cody Raak
Age: 21
Height: 194cm
Weight: 85kg
Position: Key Defender

Cody Raak joins the Roosters after 2 years on the Western Bulldogs AFL list. Cody played his junior football with the Western Jets and was picked by the Western Bulldogs as an NGA Academy selection at the 2021 AFL draft. Cody is an intercept defender who reads the game well and uses the ball efficiently when in possession. Cody has the versatility to play at either end of the ground and has strong game awareness with his positioning and ability to impact the contest. We are excited with the way that Cody will complement the current defensive group with his height and aerial skillset.

you lot are a little strange...
For how many years you are pushing Port and Crows out of the SANFL
As soon as it looks like happening..."how will they afford it?" "SANFL have a binding contract for $400k per year" etc etc
 which one do you want?
Us lot, bit generalistic?
Personally I'd be happy to go pick up cans and give the AFL teams my proceeds if it gets them out any sooner.
I'll throw in some steak knives if it helps.

You are very narrow minded Wedgie... think outside your club mate.
It's already happening... the SANFL will be defunct 5 years after the AFL sides exit. Bookmark this.
Rather be narrow minded than clueless.
All the AFL clubs do is whinge, they don't bring anything positive to the SANFL.
It would be narrow minded to think the SANFL rely on them.

I’m not.
I’m a Magpies fan who doesn’t give a shit about the Power!

Bring back the 80’s and early 90’s.
Yeah fair enough but you were already screwed by the Power 10 years ago when they dissolved the club that won all those flags so they could have some income from a pub for the AFL. I do feel for you and the very few loyal real fans that didn't jump on the new club's bandwagon.
At least they won't be disrespecting you anymore by wearing the guernsey of the club they killed off.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

Its not a done deal by a long stretch. PA have APPLIED to join the VFL. The VFL may not accept PA request. As I said in my previous post, the VFL may make demands/requests to PA and PA may decline VFL's counter offer/conditions. It not a done deal, so no celebrating yet (but one can only hope ;) ).
Don't be a Debbie Downer. We're all so happy atm! :D

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

Not sure why power and crows people think the AFL will take away funding from the SANFL if they’re not in it. Not much really changes, we’ll still get the same funding for all the junior development programs. Port haven’t paid any money directly to the SANFL clubs and from memory the Crows stopped paying the $50k to each club around 2019. Port crowds are average now, Crows crowds below that. Media attention on the league will be the same and I think channel 7 will continue with the way things are. Can’t see the SANFL losing much from them leaving apart from maybe a couple of players in each side depending on how it’s structured.

Port crowds average ? I’ll assume you mean at Alberton games cause they struggle to drive up port road to oval ave .
Yep slightly more port fans than crows fans at away games
I think he meant average as in mediocre not an actual average of the league.

Re: PAFC 2024

Good deal for all involved.

Still trying to work out how this is a good deal for Port?
They don't have to deal with a contract increase and/or a bidding war when he hits Free Agency like they will with Butters.
That and as Booney mentioned being able to manipulate the salary cap a bit easier are 2 benefits.
In an ideal world they'd have Rozee and Butter's contracts swapped but they couldn't have given Rozee the Captaincy and Butters the better deal.

Cooked my first chook on the Ziggy tonight, best chicken I've had in my life!
Just basted it in olive oil, a smoky BBQ sauce and some salt. Put hickory pellets in the smoker box.
On a roll after great pork and lamb on Xmas Day as well as several BBQs since we bought it in December.
Wife is stoked, I cook more than her now!
These things are amazing. I considered a Weber Q for the same price but the Ziggy looked a better option with the heat they generate. So easy to cook amazing food.

Re: NIGHT SERIES

It was a mid week cup early in the 80s (one final was played in shocking conditions at Thebby Oval) and turned to pre season around the mid 80s and changed it's name to the Foundation Cup when the govt started sponsoring tournies who previously had tobacco sponsorship. Started early Feb, used to be double headers Fri and Sat night at Footy Pk probably with one game in the country and most was on TV.
Went through till the early 90s I think.
Usually about 4 weeks round robin with a final of the top 2.
Quarters were a tad shorter and I'll never forget the game Glenelg came back and beat Sturt I think it was despite being down by 59 points at 3/4 time.
Kicked something like 10.0 to 0.0 with a goal after the siren.
Geez, that's about 40 years ago now.

Over 40 years of dedicated service to Sturt and the SANFL

Congrats mate!

Thanks, mate! It's been an honor to serve Sturt and it's players over 44 years. Pleasingly, it's shone a focus on sports trainers in State League and community based sporting clubs. It's a tough gig at times, where often you're the primary caregiver for injury players. Hopefully go at least 6 seasons to go before I retire...
