Re: Fun runs

Well I survived my first trail run. Found it very different to my normal road runs. Really needed to concentrate on where I was landing my feet, would be very easy to roll an ankle. As it was there were a couple of "stacks".... I did to 10k, some steep hills in the route. Set myself the goal of 1.10.00.... finished in 1.08.35 so pretty happy with that. More so as I played cricket Saturday and was a little sore going into the run.... not to mention a few beers after the game didn't help matters!

Re: Christmas Day 2016, how are you spending it?

I only just saw the forecast.... well we have about 16 for lunch, which is small. Most years its 20+. I will get the weber fired up early in the day, so that by midday - the lid comes off the 1st beer. Prawns to warm up, then roast (chicken, leg of lamb) along with turkey and every bloody vegetable you can imagine. Everyone brings something so it kind of works for us. I only do a lamb on the weber..... I draw the line there. A sneaky bottle or 2 of red.... and asleep on the lounge by 7.30pm. Boxing day tradition is to watch the 1st session of play, from the MCG in bed..... that is a given. Outside chance of a "wellington"....if I play my cards right!

Made the move to Melbourne.

Well 2016 was a crazy year.

After working for 10 years in a small family business the end came in September. The business is still operating on a greatly reduced scale, and while I still have some input, it was unable to offer me full time employment. This scenario has been likely for quite some time.

So for the first time in over 25 years, I was out of work. Time to freshen up the CV and see what was out there. As it turned out, in SA not very much!

I did have some commission sales work to keep me occupied however I really only saw that as a temporary thing. The flexibility was great. But no superannuation, no paid leave etc is not my scene. I was in this space for around 6 or 7 weeks.

Earlier in 2016 I had a meeting with a specialist recruitment company (specific to my industry) who are based in Melbourne. For 9 months I did not hear from them.

Then in mid November I received an email advising me of a role they thought I would be suitable for. That's when this crazy ride went to a whole new level.

Interview arranged, flew to Melbourne, met the bloke went well, I left there knowing that I had the job. All of a sudden shit was getting real.

Got a phone call later that day offering me the job. How soon can you start?

Not wanting to miss out, next week I said. So that gave me about 5 days to sort myself out. The new employer would put me up for two weeks in the local quest hotel. They would also send me to the USA for 2 weeks training. All this happened between late Nov and Xmas. I was away for just on a month.

During this time I also needed to sort my own accomodation, furniture and all the other crap that goes with moving.

The plan so far is:- I have rented a 2 bedroom apartment about 15-20 minutes from my new office which is near Tullamarine. Wife and Daughter will eventually come over here as well. By then I will need a bit bigger place. We don't want to sell our place in SA. Most likely rent it out to offset costs over here. Ideally buy a 3 bedroom townhouse (can't be bothered with gardening anymore) and have a real estate portfolio. Something I have wanted to do, but been to conservative to risk in the past. No i am almost forced to do it.

So I am now 6 weeks into the job and finding my feet.

Things I am/ will miss. My local cricket club, my local golf club. The Roosters. My SA mates.

Things I can now do - go to more Hawks games, upgraded my membership. Go to way more events/ concerts etc.

So I guess I am now... a bloody Victorian!!!

I love Adelaide, and SA and it will always be HOME....

Thanks for reading all the best to everyone for 2017.

Re: What part of your game are you working at?

So at the range the other day, I thought I would try to keep my chin up slightly higher so that my left shoulder could easily slide underneath it on the backswing.
Doing that, along with working on maintaining the hinge, immediately resulted in extra distance.
Then working on improving my draw which tends to be my natural shot shape (outside of the massive slice I have with the driver)
I'd say that 60-70% of the time the ball went where it was supposed to go ...

Looking forward to another range session and then testing it all out on the course under the pressure of comp!
The thing about hitting balls in the range is you can tinker, hit 10 shots i a row with the same club. You can't do that in a round. Good to work on stuff but also as with any practice, try to make it game specific. So image playing one of your par 5's. Hit driver, 4 iron, wedge just to break up your practice. Then imagine those 3 shots on your course.... are you on the green?

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go

Another horrible round.
Used the driver for first time in a few weeks.
Had a cracking drive on the 4th, where I managed to draw it around the trees.
Outside of that, it was a disaster.
Tried to tee the ball higher to get it in the air, especially on a couple of holes with a tail breeze.
Certainly did get them up......They popped straight up!!!! Useless club.
Rd 2 of the summer cup next week, my first rd was good, so somehow need to recapture that.
Driver may stay in the car......
I used to do the same thing with my driver. The key for me is to take it back low. Don't pick it up. If you are hitting the ball high off the tee you are coming down on the ball. Go to the range and practice a low extended takeaway. I think of sweeping the ball off the tee. It helped me. I still hit the odd high one, when I actually get to play that is!

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go

I have the ball high on the tee, but do have it well forward in my stance to allow for that.
But yes I think I need to work on the takeaway.
Many years ago I used to take the club back slowly outside the line and then it would come through inside-out.
May try that and many others to find a solution....

Sent from my XT1562 using Tapatalk
Get it right with the take away, drop it inside on the way down... draw right there!

Teeing it forward in the stance will promote a slice. Try it off the inside of your left foot... assuming you are right handed!

Ok played Yarrambat today, **** it was hot!

89 off the stick so not to bad.

Interesting course, played with a couple of members, but being Sunday a few social groups and nuffies on the course, which made for near on a 5 hour round!

Decent layout but it's been a dry summer over here and lots of dead grass and hard pan lies. Like to come back again once we've had some rain. Greens also recently cored and had not been cut. So they played very slow. Only 10 minutes from where I'm living so pretty handy.

$1250 a year for 7 day membership which from what I can gather is cheap over here!

US Masters 2017

Well, it's getting closer to that magical time of year again.... The US Masters.

April 6 to 9th (US)

Defending Champion Danny Willets returns:- (From the US Masters Website)

One year ago, there were doubts whether Danny Willett would even make it to Augusta for his second career Masters Tournament start. Now, the 29-year-old Englishman is relishing his experience last April and anticipating the return to Augusta National.

“I can’t think of a more amazing week to defend,” Willett said on Tuesday during the 2016 Masters champion’s conference call with media. “I’m going to go on the Saturday before and play nine holes on my own and kind of soak it up and drive down Magnolia Lane on my own. And I’m pretty sure that as I get even within the area of Augusta, there’s going to be a big Cheshire smile on my face. And then when you actually drive down Magnolia Lane and you park in the car park and go put your shoes on, obviously it's going to be different. I’m going to be able to slip my shoes on in the Champions Locker Room upstairs.

“It’s going to be an amazing feeling to be able to go back there. Forevermore, my name is in history at that golf club and I’m going to be able to go there and be part of the Augusta family and enjoy every experience when I go back there.”

Last spring, Willett’s wife, Nicole, was expecting the couples’ first child on Masters Sunday, April 10. However, Zachariah James was born on March 30, allowing Willett to be one of the last to arrive for Masters week. He spent the week before with his wife, newborn and practicing at home on the weekend with “quality” before flying to Augusta on Monday of Masters week.

Five strokes back with six holes remaining, Willett played solidly over the final few holes, shooting a bogey-free 67 to win the Green Jacket. The moment he realized there was a chance occurred late on Sunday as he completed No. 15 and heard that leader Jordan Spieth had made a 7 on the par-3 No. 12. There was a brief discussion with his caddie about “five good shots coming in.” There was also a respite as he visited a restroom reserved for players that is situated near No. 16 tee.

“It was quite nice to have a couple minutes of silence,” Willett said. “I said to myself, ‘This is what you practice for. … You’re in this position and this is what you want to do.’ ”

The time since has been a whirlwind, full of occasionally wearing the Green Jacket to various functions, signing oodles of Masters pin flags, changing diapers, attending soccer matches, snooker tournaments and in the Royal Box at Wimbledon alongside Jack and Barbara Nicklaus. As the new Masters Champion, the sudden dash into the spotlight is the new normal.
