Re: 2018 Broadcast Coverage

I did end up doing that Wedgie, but why can't they get the App working???
Aps are overrated and I blame Apple for that, just use a decent browser whenever you can, for anything.
I cant get most apps to work on my tvs so I just use browsers. (Kodi being the exception)
Yep agree. I barely use any apps at all.

Re: I need to know....

Has anyone else had issues with sleep walking?
Only in the last year have I started doing it and really only became aware of it the other night when my missus woke me up in the kitchen which is the other end of the house. The next morning she found a knife and fork in the fridge!
Previously I've come too in the ensuite and in the walk in absolutely lost.
Luckily I live in a very quiet neighbourhood so if I go for a walk down the street I should be fairly safe!
I'm guessing it's a result of a combination of a skin full and my heart medication.

I used to when I was a kid. I once tried to saw my brothers feet off with my hand. My mum heard me making sawing noises and came in to find out what was going on. She asked my why I was trying to saw his feet off and I told here it was because I couldn’t saw his head off. **** knows what I must have been doing to him. Bro was blissfully unaware of how lucky he was that I didn’t try the knife drawer first.

On another night my mum heard singing coming from the kitchen. When she came in she found me perched on top of the larder unit singing and playing the air guitar. When she asked me what I was doing I told her I was Cat Stevens

There were so many other times...

Re: Things that make you sad.

Some good news for my mum. Sounds like they have caught this early and a simple procedure should remove the spot on the liver. Fingers crossed!
Great news for you CM. That must be such a relief.

Catching it early is thing. Too many people bury their heads and wait until it’s too late. I guess because so often in the past the big “C” usually meant a death sentence.

So much of it is treatable and whilst we will never find a cure, for the foreseeable future anyway, treatment techniques have advanced so much that most forms are now treatable. But only if you get it in time.

Really pleased to hear another story of someone sticking two fingers up at cancer and winning their battle.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

I have been a Port Magpies fan since 1988 when I was 7 years old..I continue to support the Port Magpies and regularly attend the games but have not been a member since the Power amalgamation. I'm a Brisbane Lions fan in the AFL and have no affection for Port Power whatsoever. I never saw them as the same thing in 1997, especially when a number of the players of the time specifically tried to distance themselves from any Magpies heritage with comments that they made to the media.

Scott Hodges makes the same point in his recent book, explaining why to this day he continues to support Collingwood in the AFL. I strongly was against the AFL intrusion in the SANFL, however it has happened and it's now become the lesser of two evils to me if the alternative is no magpies at all. It's a sad state of affairs for us old Port fans, hating the AFL in SANFL but now having to hope for it to continue.. :(

You can't hang you're hat on that, all new players to all clubs need to be educated on their clubs history. Just remember that because the Power aren't black and white or called the magpies doesn't mean they're not Port Adelaide, born at Alberton not at SANFL headquarters upon some hard work and vision 7 years earlier. You don't knock someone for trying to seek promotion in the workforce nor should we knock the PAFC for wanting to prove themselves in the highest competition, whatever colours or name they might be.

Another case of you don’t agree with me so you are wrong.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

Would have jumped on the port AFL bandwagon if they had kept their colours maybe. It's hard to say as the whole thing was such a farce at the time with the club claiming that the power were a new entity and the magpies remained in the SANFL. Adding to the joke at the time was the fact that a lot of supporters of other SANFL teams, particularly Sturt fans I knew started supporting the power whilst still hating the magpies. They, like me, bought the official line at the time that the power was the new entity.
I reckon it was the teal that brought them in.

I was of the other persuasion. I would rather have seen a genuine SANFL club enter, wearing their genuine SANFL colours with their genuine mascot, carrying all their traditions with them .

I don't think sentiment is such a large part of it. More relevant for me is the credibility of what we are following as a sport.
What's the point of it all if you are going to throw it all away and follow someone else the moment it is more fashionable to do so? How can you then stand on the terraces and demand more of your side when the chips are down, if you yourself are going to drop it the minute the TV or the newspaper says that there's something better to do?

I think that is why I keep coming back to this site. I know most of the readers here feel the same way. For better or worse I think we are a rare breed.

So Port at the time of AFL entry weren't a genuine SANFL club. Again too much emphasis on guernsey and name, if they could of they would of, the same thing would of happened if it were Glenelg instead of Port
The Port that entered the AFL wasn’t

Re: Soooooo, how's this weather?

Lancashire on the side of Pendle Hill
Witch territory?
Yup. One of the witches that was hanged lived in our house. It was two houses then and she was accused of ‘bewitching’ the two brothers who lived next door. One died in 1609 and the other in 1610. She was hung at Lancaster Castle in 1612. There are two graves in Newchurch cemetery with the names Robinson and dated 1609 and 1610.

The Robinsons were called before the magistrate in 1549 for having an ‘unkept’ farm. It isn’t clear if it is the Robinson brothers or their parents, but it refers to our house by name. We thought the place was built in 1578 but this dates it to at least 1549 and we assume it was a working farm before this date.

Brilliant, love history like that.

Our house, by no means as historical as that, was built 1896 which for us South'strayans is quite old. I've got a good deal of information from the previous owner, the owner prior to them and our former neighbour next door who lived in her house from 1954 until just a few years ago.

On a side note, my boss is from Royal Lemington Spa.

When we were having the lounge renovated we decided to get rid of the old wood burner. We got the builders to take off the dry lining on the wall and dig out the filled in fire place. When they’d finish they’d got back to the original fire place complete with ash stained stone. We’ve had an open fire built in there and have to say it looks terrific.

The stone lintel above the door is carved with the initials HMR 1616. We’d assumed the 1616 meant the date the 2nd house was built but having learned of the Robinsons we can only guess that the R in HMR stands for Robinson. Above someone else has carved some initials and 1716. The 1616 carving is very neat, almost like it’s been done by a stone carver. The 1716 looks like it’s been scratched on and is very untidy, like a ‘Fitzroy woz ere ‘

The house still has the original wood beams which is incredible to think they have been there for over 450 years.

Re: EPL Season 2017/2018

Poor decision by the ref:
Soton are desperate for points. Referee gives a free to Everton that never was, then allows them to take it from at least 20 yards further down field, A handful of passes later and Everton score. The implications of Southampton gaining one point or three are huge. The linesman was stood no more than 10 yards away from the incident and did not see a need to raise his flag, yet the referee, who was 30-40 yards away, calls a free.

Re: EPL Season 2017/2018

What a terrible end of season game that was. Both teams safe, Europa safe, Nothing to play for so nobody played.
Bournemouth took the points with two farcical goals, the 2nd one in added time was pure comedy.

And before that, on 89 mins the stadium thought we’ve finally got our 1st penalty as Nacki Wells was tackled from behind and brought down in the box. Sadly our penalty hoodoo remained in tact and to add injury to insult the ref blew for a goal kick.
Surely if he thought it was a goal kick then he must have thought the defender didn’t make contact with the ball, and if the defender didn’t make contact with the ball then it must have been a foul. I know, I know, too logical for football.

So endeth a great season for the Clarets who have finished way above anyone’s expectations. Some great games and some great results culminating in qualifying for European football for the 1st time in 51 years an our highest league finish in over 40 years.
Amazingly for the smallest club in the division from the smallest town, we have become the 5th most profitable in the premier league and the 12th most profitable in world football.

Well done to the Clarets, will always have a soft spot for them and Leceister because of good friends that passionately follow/followed those clubs.
I read somewhere that Spurs have a similar pay structure to Burnley and are still miles behind Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc.
You'd have a much better idea than me mate, is that anywhere close to the truth? i think you are probably right mate. I don’t think spurs are ever going to break the bank to sign a player, like say City, United, Chelsea or even Liverpool. I think Kane will be on a hefty salary though.

Our top earner is on £40k a week. But our manager is on £4.3m a year. Players, they come and go, even the greatest ones are still part of a team. Get the right manager and stick with him. Look at the clubs at the asre end of the league, and how many managers they’ve got through this year. That’s the real secret of success. Oh and a huge pot of cash helps

Mings Court
Morphett Vale

Been around since Noah was a boy and interior decor hasn't changed at all since opening.
Last year we had a big table of 10 or so.

This year just 4 of us....taking the MIL out for dinner.

Got picked up and we arrived about 15mins before our booking time.
No problems there. Seated straight away. And after ordering a banquet for 4 our starter soup had arrived.
Staff were on top of everything. To the point where our entree of spring rolls/satay kebab came out straight after we finished the soup......we were like eating machines with all the food arriving....and that suits a fat bastard like me!!! Anyway the other 3 wanted a little break before mains. By this time the restaurant was full. Loads of tables that were seating 8+ people.
We then asked for our mains and 2 of the 4 arrived. I think that the kitchen only sent 2 out given we had requested that break. Anyway it took us a while to garner attention for the remainder of our mains to arrive. But the Mongolian Steak was well worth waiting.
We had been there 2 months back midweek and it food was ok. But when they are busy the food seems to be better!!!

I didn’t pay. ..but think it was around the $140 mark.
Banguet = $28pp
Beer, lemon lime bitters, 2 cokes.

Re: Things that make you sad.

As I went to leave work yesterday I received a phone call saying my Grandfather had passed away in the morning.

The man was nothing short of inspirational after losing both his legs in a trucking accident at the age of 27 but continued to drive past 70 years of age, he was fully awake when they told him the only way they can save his life was to free him from the trailer that was on top of his crushed legs.

He had a tough life, had two sons die of cot death, another is retarded which him and my nanna (who died last year) never asked for help or care for him as they tried to once when he was a teenager only to return a week earlier that expected to find him severely bashed by staff members at the centre he was staying at.

The final straw was seeing everything they had lived for destroyed in the Pinery fires, due to a technicality with their insurance policy, they were not covered and couldn't afford to contest it, it saw them both deteriorate in health rapidly, you just can't start again when you're 80.

It was a very solemn night for me, my wife has some of her own issues she is dealing with so I didn't want to flood her with mine, I am lucky though to have a father like I did and a grandfather that taught me so much about myself and worrying about what I have around me, not what I don't have, he was a very spritely, happy man, I never saw him once in my life angry.

You’re having a bit of a tough time at the moment LM. Call up a good mate, go out and have a beer and off load. A good mate will be happy to listen and being able to talk to someone relieves so much pressure.

Keep your chin up.

Re: Things that you rate!

Sat in a meeting today whilst my son gave a presentation to senior managers recommending a new supplier and why.
I was as proud as punch, not just seeing how far he has come, but from the reaction of the other staff. :D

Re: Premiership 2018

Eagles clearly favorites and as the season evolves I can see a huge gap between them and any other team.

Yeah, huge gap between them and North
