BARCLAYS Premier League giants Chelsea are reportedly set to play a friendly match against the A-League championship hopefuls Sydney FC in June after their season concludes.
Fairfax reports that a deal for the match on June 2 at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium has been agreed to in principle and could be publicly announced next week.
The match could be a champion versus champion face-off, with Chelsea heavy favourites to win the EPL title, while Sydney FC are in contention to win the A-League.
Chelsea will be a here only a week after fellow EPL side Tottenham Hotspur, who also meet Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium on May 30.
Superstars Eden Hazard, Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, along with outspoken manager Jose Mourinho, will jet to Australia in what is expected to be a full-strength touring party for the Blues, who last visited Australia 50 years ago.
Chelsea have told Fox Sports the club are “declining to comment” on the speculation at this stage.
It is a winter feat this year for Australian soccer fans, with Real Madrid, AS Roma and Manchester City coming here in July to play a round-robin tournament in Melbourne.
On top of that, Liverpool and La Liga outfit Villarreal will play friendlies in Adelaide and Brisbane against the Reds and Roar.
The A-League All Stars fixture will not go ahead in 2015 due to the congested schedule of touring teams.
