or throw one of the div 8 teams up into div 7 and fix both...

the other thing is that the bye gives people a chance to recuperate, and given that the average age in div 8 and c grades is older, this is welcome.

This is not the AFL. It's an 18 week season not 23. In the lower levels if you need a week off you take one and probably most importantly teams get 2 weeks off with long weekends already.

Byes are a coaching nightmare in lower divs. in 2010 our run went bye, long weekend, Ovingham folded. So I had to try and get a team together after a month off. You would much rather play every week and have long weekends off.

I do like your first idea. Throw TTG who should have been in Div 6 last year into Div 7. They do have the largest junior program in the State. No byes problem solvered. :D OK so it doesn't have to be TTG but how about aSMOSH who seem to play in lower grade GFs every year.

Yeah that would work. It would mean that you would play 4 teams 3 times but at least no byes.

I think your spot on Mr Marbles. SMOSH C and D's have been ripping it up for years and should be in 7.

The least ideal scenario is to have 8 teams and thus a biased fixture.

I'll admit that adding the Easter weekend on top of the other byes is one too many. It's a shame that easter is so late this year.

Not that it really affects me, but I'd rather the bye and have a weekend to go and watch some mates play in other leagues, get across to Melbourne to watch Richmond, or just have a week off footy altogether, not to mention giving the body another break, than have a compromised fixture, which could be the difference between a side making the finals or not.

Sorry Pag you lost all credibility when you said go and watch Richmond ;) I understand you would want at least a 9 team league so Richmond have their spot they have made their own. OK I'm done now, sorry mate. I am in the same boat doesn't directly effect me but my point of view was as a coaching one.

Incidentally I am heading over late this year to watch your beloved Tigers take on the worlds greatest football team ever ever Port. Have been invited into a corporate box at Etihad. Div 8 probably won't be at the front of my mind then

I'll be there that day too, flying over on the Sunday morning. No corporate box but I'll be sure to wave up at you while you look down at us commoners. ;)

SHOC are now listed in Div 7. I don't mind the bye either - as we know C/D graders are predominatly made of blokes aged 30+ and gives a chance to rest the old legs.

I know a lot of people don't agree with that but in theory, that'd be almost perfect for a comp dominated by players over 30.
