Series final episode - the good and bad

Postby RustyCage » Wed Oct 02, 2013 12:31 am

With the talk of Breaking Bad and Dexter final episodes in recent times, it got me wondering what you thought were the good and bad final episodes for different shows you used to watch.

For me the best finale was Cheers. The line "Sorry, we're closed" was a great ending. The whole final episode gave a conclusion to all the main characters, and it's an ep I've seen on youtube many times.

While I never liked the show, the final of MASH was also really well done, and it's just how you'd imagine it would happen at the end of a war.

Another good ending was A Country Practice with the fire, only weakened by wedding at the end.

Wasn't a fan of the final episode of Married with Children, don't like tv weddings and the whole plot of Kellys wedding was strange.

Another final episode I didn't like, though seemed not to be in the minority at the time, was the Seinfeld finale, just thought it was self indulgent crap.

Carson's Law had an awesome ending. "Remember me father!" Blammo.

Cheers was great, Newhart was amazing. In terms of sci fi, ST:TNG was perfect, DS9 was really good, Lost was disappointing and Battlestar Galactica was deplorable

Thought the last double-episode of The Wonder Years wasn't the greatest. Was a bit awkward more than anything, but I believe it hadn't been given the flick until after the last series was filmed. Really needed another short series of 10 episodes.

Will be interesting to see whether the final episode(s) of How I Met Your Mother are any good, given it's probably gone on three seasons too many.

Seinfeld was self-indulgent on a whole, part of the show :)
It's a silly show that was great to watch.. and the notion of finishing with the same lines as it started the first episode was sort of cool. That ending didn't bother me - it wasn't a story-based show with massive arcs.

The Sopranos finale was for me, THE best ever.
Breaking Bad was a second
Cheers third.

I used to run another forum, but I closed it a year or two ago. When I closed it, I just put up a black screen with a small image of the last scene in cheers, with "Sorry, we're closed".
I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.

Yep, me too. Especially after the writers claimed that everything would be explained in the last series.

The way Six Feet Under ended was perfect, and I've yet to see a show end on a better note.

Most people are right about the Dexter finale. It was a huge let down from a series that delivered so much.

Corner Gas was a brilliant show, and ended really well too.

Exactly, I stuck with Lost the whole time, really got into it and was really looking forward to finding out what happened and have it all explained yet it just ended up being a complete trainwreck of an ending where nothing was ever explained.

Going from memory here, but I didn't think Deadwood and Rome's "final" episode was intended to be so at the time, and thus they were never really given a chance to complete the series?

Deadwood was a terrible end for such a great show. It was pretty evident that the story was set up for a fourth season when HBO cancelled during the third season leaving the finale with a lot of unfinished business

Sopranos - annoyingly vague; give the viewers some closure!

Breaking Bad - at first, I thought it was great, tying up pretty much all the loose ends, but after thinking about it I think it really makes a hero out of Walt at the end and I don't think his character deserved to have everything work out so smoothly after everything he'd caused.

6 feet under - perfect ending.

Game of Thrones... Nah, just kidding...
