Channel 7 announced by SANFL as preferred telecast partner

It was never confirmed. It was a wildly premature press release for the sake of having a press release (why I don't know, as I would have thought it would only further piss off decisionmakers in the ABC, given that no formal announcement on 2014 state league coverage has been made). You don't put out a press release saying that you're having "exploratory talks" with commercial partners who can push up the $ to make it happen; you have those talks, and issue the press release if they succeed and you have something to announce. The fact that "7 are our preferred commercial telecast partner" doesn't mean:
a) that the ABC has announced they've pulled their coverage, nor that if the ABC decides to continue coverage we'll turn them down,
b) if the ABC does pull its coverage, that we have the money to actually pay for commercial production.

Incidentally, Steven Soderbergh has recently been named 'preferred directorial partner' for my kid's 5th birthday party. Exploratory talks with key commercial partners continue.

It was one of the key selling points when Slaven was discussing the entry of the Crows at the info night. Would be very surprised if it doesn't go ahead.

Basically, he's seen the same PDF that North Adelaide has helpfully made available to the world.

Look, who knows what might happen (or have already happened) with funds quietly diverted from the Crows to McGuire Media, as part of the whole dirty deal to lever the Crows 2s into the SANFL (you'd call in the anti-corruption commission for a full investigation in an instant, if it was a public entity behaving itself in this way). But the fact that there's a PDF saying that the Crows 2s "will further strengthen the value of corporate sponsorship" doesn't actually mean that they have such sponsorship, nor that they have got anywhere near enough sponsorship to cover production costs. If they had enough corporates prepared to sign to make it a no-fuss reality, then presumably they would have signed them and announced that a deal was done and SANFL is 100% certainly broadcast on Ch 7 next year, rather than spending their time making silly-looking PDFs.

It was said there were already 3 sponsors lined up to fund the deal, thanks to the Crows. The make up of the SANFL in 2014 is still unknown at this point with the Port discussion. Just another negative Rucci article stirring the pot IMO. I guess we'll find out in enough time.

It's good that someone is finally looking into this debacle, instead of blindly accepting lie after lie.

Maybe seven want more than a lazy million now. A million could buy a lot of exposure, especially if the abc is still televising.

I think the SANFL is struggling to find a taker for the $1 million in sponsorship. Yet another dumb idea when they thought everyone would climbing over each other once the Cows were in.

If some of the six voted or back flipped partly contingent on seven broadcasting and this doesn't happen they should vote again.

None, as they no longer exist in the competition, same should go for the Crows and Power i.e shouldn't play or exist in the SANFL Competition.

Getting closer...

Michaelangelo Rucci wrote:
SANFL's potential deal with Channel 7 offers more than just weekly telecasts

And the unprecedented investment of almost $1 million a season for the next three years goes far beyond weekend telecasts of the state league.

The production package offered by Eddie McGuire's Melbourne-based media company also will boost the SANFL's image on the Internet and social media.

Negotiations for sponsors to bankroll the SANFL's return to commercial television - for the first time since 1991 - are down to one final backer that has been brought to the talks by the Port Adelaide Football Club. The deal could be closed by next Friday.

With the finances secrured, the SA Football Commission at the end of the month is expected to endorse the McGuire deal that will have SANFL games shown on Channel Seven's sports-dedicated 7-Mate digital signal.

It also should spell the end of the SANFL's association with the non-commercial ABC which has carried state league games exclusively since Channel Nine stepped away in 1991.

To stay with the ABC would cost the SANFL as much as $150,000 in support fees to the national broadcaster. But the ABC cannot guarantee coverage beyond next season and has declined the SANFL's wish for a three-year agreement.

McGuire Media and Channel Seven's talks in anticipation of their SANFL partnership goes far beyond simply keeping the state league on television.

The production papers also emphasise "rejuvenating the league's image" and "expanding the SANFL clubs' commercial opportunities".

The latter is not possible on the ABC which has a charter forbidding commerical endorsements.

Offering new sponsors the chance to promote their businesses during an SANFL telecast could secure much-needed new financing for some cash-strapped SANFL clubs.

McGuire Media's production philosophy also vows to "deliver the SANFL into the 21st century". This is to be primarily achieved with six cameras used in each telecast.

But McGuire Media also is offering its marketing expertise to help the SANFL and its clubs develop stronger images on new media platforms, in particular mobile devices with an official league app that is critical for driving a new, younger supporter base.

Channel Seven's commitment is to go far beyond simply taking the McGuire Media feed from an SANFL game to fill air time on 7-Mate.

Seven also is embracing the SANFL by vowing to promote the state league - and its television coverage - during high-rating AFL telecasts on the network's main signal.

The SANFL next year will return to a 10-team competition for the first time since 1991 with the introduction of the Crows reserves team.
