2nd Test West Indies vs Australia @ Port of Spain

Postby Jimmy » Sun Apr 15, 2012 4:52 pm

Windies likely to play the extra spinner, Aussies likely to be unchanged. Rain to threaten each day.

Looking forward to watching this one.

Cowan would need runs I reckon. Hopefully Lyon can bounce back.

Aussies to win in 4.5 days.

*edit - commences - 11:30pm tonight (15/4) - SA time

I reckon Cowan is fairly safe compliments Warner nicely and allows Watson to bat at 3 where i think the selectors have wanted him to bat for a while now.

Yes, good to hear we are batting first. Hopefully we see some big innings from the openers now.

No injuries apparently? Very shocked...

Edit: from cricinfo - Australia are without Man of the Match of the previous match, Ryan Harris, who has been rested. Peter Siddle is out with a stiff back. They have brought in James Pattinson and Michael Beer

Some confusion there...given out caught behind, Sammy said it, didn't carry, but it was out lbw yet they didn't appeal for lbw? Wow...weird

0.6
Edwards to Warner, no run, 135.4 kph, Drama. Warner has been given out. We don't know for what. This is crazy stuff. length ball, swinging in, hits the pad in front of off, caught on a half-volley by Baugh. West Indies appeal, Erasmus raises the finger, caught at wicket. Sammy takes the appeal back, saying the ball didn't carry. However, there was no edge, and this made for a superb lbw shout. Warner bats on. This is one of the most bizarre things I have seen on a cricket field

Total f**k up by the Windies. Some times you've got to learn to keep your mouth shut. Why did Sammy even think that he hit it ? Watching on telly live, the LBW was the only obvious thing they were appealing for.
Yuo dont have to tell the umpire wether it's Caught ot LBW you're appealing for. Just appeal and let them make a decision. In this case the umpire gave it OUT and if Warner didn't like it he could've asked for a review. Pretty simple i would've thought.

They will crucify Sammy in the Windies if Warner goes on to get a big one. Very passionate cricket folk over there. And given how good this pitch looks for a first innings, and how much it looks like it'll go to shit after a day or two, that's pretty likely!

Good to see Cowan following Pottsy's sage words of wisdom and rotating the strike here and there...

0/38 after 9 overs.

Why does Cowan need to make runs? Not like anyone is playing SS cricket here at the moment, and personally I would like to see them stick with him even if he does have a lean period. Think in recent years we hasve been far too hasty to drop someone for poor form. Give the lad time to find his feet..

Simple, better to make runs than not. He needs a big score, anyone who has played cricket can see that. I'm not saying to drop him mind you.

Hmmm, I think he was unlucky there, looked to hit him outside the line...oh well.

Poor decision IMO
His bowling is ordinary, he is one of the worlds worst fielders and we are pretty much 1 fa before we go out to bat as im suprised he knows which end of the bat to hold.

Tough going so far
4/167 (67)
Warner 29
Cowan 28
Ponting 7
Clarke 45
Watson 54*
Hussey 0*
Top order got starts again, Clarke disappointed me a little, was given out LBW for 41 and decision was overturned then a couple of balls later he got out to a long hop pie.
