Unfortunately.....the powers in the SANFL at the moment could make it a reality quicker than most people think.

I can see the brown on their noses.

The Crows should be owned and run by their members, just like all the sanfl clubs.

Cannot trust that W@nker and his 5foot afternoon shadow they are ruining football across the country. I liken them to the Nazi Blitzkrieg of 1939-40 destroying everything in their path for total domination.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

Was thinking the same thing. Luckily the 2 Adelaide sides aren't cash cows.

Demetriou ? The man's a megalomaniac. He'll overreach eventually and come down in a screaming heap. Bond, Skase, it's a familiar pattern.

Get stuffed.

If they want it, hand over 4 million to the SANFL for starters.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

FWIW: Demetriou is a blatant liar. He came over here last year and said he was happy with the way WA footy was structured and planned no changes, then comes out with this.

It gets my blood boiling when AFL club supporters (and Port are the worst for this) want to kill off the SANFL. Sure, do that but who does the development of players at the grassroots level? Are they going to take it over?

AFL supporters in Adelaide whine about the SANFL seeing the two AFL clubs just "cash cows". Of course they're cash cows, that's the whole POINT.

If they want to take away the revenue stream for development in the clubs districts, then the AFL can stop paying a pittance for player transfers.

The WAFC do a fantastic job of developing the game and future AFL players at the junior level, but the mouth breathers who go to AFL games just sit there and go "hurrrr, it's our licence, give it to us" without any thought of where the stars of the future are going to come from.

Chip away at the foundations and the house falls down.

I dont know whether we'd ever get them (I dont know the man personally), but I'd love to get Wayne Jackson's thoughts on the current lay of the footy land, how he perceives the future of it for all top level competitions and states, and his successor, and whether he still believes the game heads in the right direction.

Next question .. If the licenses were to be bought back, how much would they be worth? $4 mil + CPI + %age of profitability or turnover? The TV rights deal alone surely whacks on plenty of $$ to a sell price of the license (by comparison to initial purchase price)?

I've been saying to my mates for years, the obvious option is to combine all the states into a second tier comp, run by the AFL but utilising the rivalry between not only existing state clubs but interstate rivalry (given that interstate football is dead). The AFL have made inroads into the takeover in recent years, taking over QFL, the ACT version, Tassie, the NSW version and obviously having a stranglehold on Victoria. Only SA and WA seem to have held out... but given the Adelaide oval debarcle, our state league can also be won over with smooth talking.

This also allows SANFL team players to go 'full time' and earn a decent living. Sponsors will enjoy the extra promotion and clubs can survive through the AFL - which lets face it is a licence to print money.

Seriously though, I think it's the way to go. I can see in 15-20 years time, the state leagues being non existant and a second tier comp (pretty much like a reserves comp but with Centrals, Glenelg, Clarence, Labrador, Ainslie etc, etc being involved for BIG money) running as a lead into the AFL games.

Lets face it the SANFL is only making money from the AFL sides and most clubs are struggling to survive on their own.

Just my 2cents.

Not really. They'd be dead without the pokies, but they'd also be stuffed without the AFL dividends, that's for sure.

The biggest killer for the SANFL is actually being in Adelaide. The WAFL has a far smaller salary cap but I know for a fact that several of the best players were made nice offers from SANFL clubs, but the killer was employment. They have far better opportunities away from football here in Perth.

The AFL can whine about the SANFL's salary cap, but player payments not enough to live on. Above the table payments that is.

And that is my point. Making money and surviving off of pokies isn't sustainable. There needs to be some other way of making yourself viable - however I don't know what that is giving the market in Adelaide is saturated - and SANFL teams don't get the exposure on an ongoing basis.

Hence in 10-20 years, clubs here will be broke/extinct, which no real SANFL fan wants to see.
