Talk on the national game

Carlton Season 2009

Postby hearts on fire » Thu Mar 26, 2009 12:41 pm

Once again, all talk on the might Blues will commence here.

A vastly improving Carlton side, will take one more step of becoming a competitive side again.

This season we shall see the mighty Blues push hard for a finals spot!

My Opinion: Carlton will be similar to the Lions and will finish around the middle, between 6 and 10 on the ladder.

Good start for the Blues, but i wouldn't get to excited beating a very average side.

A win is a win but the mistakes Richmond made near Carltons goal were embarrassing. With about 10 minutes to go in the last 1/4 Richmond had given Carlton 11 goals through direct turn overs. That is terrible.

Carlton will make the 8 i think but lets not pump them up too early.

I don't think top 4 is being unreasonable..........If they have a good run with injuries anything will be possible.

If 12 teams provide them with eight first half goals every week then yes.

Only just realised this thread was here. Been concentrating on the SANFL side of things.
Was at the game last thurs, geez it was fun giving it to Benny when he went PING. All the girls that were there who knew absolutely nothing about football started sobbing and my wife gave them hell.
I think more so 5th to 8th this year. I can see us winning around 13 games which would put us around that position.
As we saw last year though, if you around that mark you only really need to win 1 that you weren't supposed to and all of a sudden you're top 4. Ill be happy with 6th though.

The Blues to finish 5th end of minor round is my guess.

Carlton are improving fast due to some good draft picks they have had in the last few years. They have a decent core of senior players as well which should see them develop well into a strong club over the years.
Young Players like Gibbs, Murphy, kruzer, are improving at a rate of knots and Murphy is really cranking this year. Add those guys to a midfield with Stevens, Judd, Scottland(when hes not back) and they look great through the middle. Also they have second tier-ish players like Bentick, Russell, Bower, Simpson, Betts around the place as well.

Now heres the thing for Carlton, if Wiggins plays like he did last week all year then that will allow him and Fev to work in Tanden and create a dynamic partnership in front of goals an heck they'll win plenty of games. But can he do that? I dont know.

After all of that my prediction is for them to finish between 5th - 8th.
As the only thing stopping them from being in the top 4 would be there defence, I feel they will struggle there a bit.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

Another good performance last night. The one thing that really worries me is that we seem to have a group of players whose shoulders don't seem to be able to hold up to the rigors of football. Jamo is one we need to be there for all 22 games plus finals (if we make it), Walker has trouble, Bower has trouble, Murph has trouble. There's more but mentioning those names scares me enough.

Hmmm, a bit quiet on this thread lately... Gotta love Over-Confident-Before-We've-Achieved-Anything-Carlton!!!! Fab 4 my ar$e (Great work Jimmy)! Losing to a team widely expected to miss the 8, hardly top 4 stuff! Don't worry lads, there's still a lot of duds running around out there for you. Loved getting texts at quarter time from a Carlton mate getting into me! I told him he might be speaking too soon, and so it was! He got his, as I hope all Carlton supporters did! Now, if we can only get past Collingwood on Anzac Day, that would make me VERY happy. :D And Ace of Spades VERY sad! :( Oh, and I'd like to win this week as well v North, but we probably can't have everything! Or can we... ;)

What a crock this year's draw is. Carlton one match against St Kilda, Hawthorn, Bulldogs and Geelong. Only four trips away from Melbourne playing Freo, Port, Adelaide and Brisbane away. The first trip outside of Victoria isn't until *ahem* Round 4 apparently!

They'll make the eight by default and get absolutely hammered in the finals.
