Rnd 21: North v Port @ Prospect - REVIEW

Postby Big Phil » Sun Aug 24, 2008 5:28 pm

Post your thoughts away ladies and gentleman...

FINAL SCORES:

PORT: 21.7 = 133
NORTH: 11.7 = 73

Port Adelaide Magpies by 60 points...

Pretty much eliminates North from the finals, no doubt there will be a few disgruntled North fans after todays effort, but rightly so based on their performance I guess...

Well done to the Maggies, think they will be the ones to hang onto 5th spot, possibly leading to an awesome Port V Norwood elimination final ???

Well done to Mark Dolling today, i thinkhe had a career high 5 goals. He is a good player, hard at and can obviosuly finish off as well...

that result isn't a great suprise to me North were gone a month or two ago. Well done to Froggy dolling on kicking a bag he is becoming a well respected player in the SANFL. It will be good to see Norwood and Port in a elimination final again.

I think you may be wrong Phil, surely the vocal majority of the North fans will be esctatic. This will justify their continual bitching and moaning all year about how Jars can't coach and how James Moore can't manage.

Now they will be able to continue the tirade for another six months!

Rejoice!

A win win for all clubs.

Maggies were good today against very uninterested opposition, least now I can sit back and await a Centrals/Sturt Grand Final

Unexpected margin. Great result.

Next two weeks for Maggies are huuuggee. Glenelg and WWT at home. One win should put us in. Come on Pies.

More Glenelg "fans" on here than one their own review thread. Hmmmm. Isn't this the North v Port review thread.

For a team that just got knocked over by WWT and aren't looking to hot atm, you seem to be awfully interested in North's implosion. If I was a Bays fan, I would have been hoping that North made the finals as they are the only team you have a change of beating.

Anyway, back on topic.

North sounded very poor today. Thought the young back line of Grose, Gallman and Cunningham did ok. Gallman kept Hargs pretty quiet all day and Cunno did a decent job on Clayton. Norths problem was Ports onballers. They killed us, and what is the point in shutting out Ports forward line up when we let Dolling, Perkins, Summerton etc just walk through the middle and kick a bag full.

Allers was out gunned up front and barely got a touch all day, because we just didn't get the footy to him. Where was Younie, Archard, O'Brien, Wintle, Rywsyck et all. Even Allan had a day off.

Got to feel for Stewart. Moved into the ruck with Dodman to cover the absence of O'Hara and the retired Wakelin, and that miss 15 metres out in front would have hammered his confidence.

As for Port. They were too good, and the 6 goal haul in the last qtr saved a greater embarrassment, but to be honest, that only came after Port had decided thay had done enough.

Port were the opposite to North. They were hungry, we weren't, they put pressure on the ball and on the man, we didn't, they were clean and sharp with their passing, we just turned it over.

Sad ending to Tubby's last Prospect game, but to quote that old cliche', "now we can concentrate on building for the future". We do have some quality players, and some good youngsters, we just need the glue to hold it all together.

btw, Big Phil, if you are going to start a review thread, rnd 21 North v Port Review would have been enough. you don't have to add the "thrashing" dramatics to the thread mate. Even if it was true.

i thought port were awesome today, they played in numbers & every player contributed in every aspect of the game while north apart from a 'finals type' opening quarter never gave a yelp, congratulations to mark clayton who got his 100 up today you could list every port player in the best players while i thought pfeiffer (not the umpire) was norths best player & i'll add that alleway is way out of form up forward & it wouldn't surprise me if west beat them in 2 weeks time & glenelg would have to improve dramatically to beat port this week & yes they look capable of playing a big part next month

Norwood and Port have only contested one Elimination Final - the first, in 1973.

Point taken about the title gentleman, I have changed it now...

I suppose it is hard enough to watch your team play the way the did today not to have to have it rubbed in, sorry :?

Port thrashed North today and the Roosters were very dissapointing by the sounds of it. Well done Port... :D

well i've seen him out there the last 2 weeks & he hasn't done very much & this is from a bloke who was dominating earlier in the year so much so that he made the state team & atm he wouldn't make a '2nd 18' state team

I guess when you are playing up front, you need to get the ball kicked to you. did that happen today ??? Dodman and Stewart playing in the ruck left Allers as our only true tall forward, I think, so it was always going to tough, but when we couldn't get the ball inside our own fifty just made it even tougher.

Personally, I would put Allers name in the hats for the "poorest display award" this week although we would need a big hat today.

THE MOMENT
Approx 8 mins into the 2nd qtr PA 9-3 NA 4-2
HARGREAVES kicks for goal and misses an easy shot for a point.
The euphoria of the moment was way too much for Danny Boy
After all the set shot miss was after he TOOK AN OVERHEAD MARK !
The great man is less than 20 goals away from his 500th career goal
I reckon by the time he gets his 500th he would have converted about 400 goals from chest marks
I cant recall a footballer who takes as many chest marks as Danny Boy.
Just for the record he has been a good recruit for the Pies

PORT PLAYER
Gets the brickbat for the following comment to a boundary umpire
" HOW CAN YOU SEE FROM THERE."
" HOW CAN YOU SEE FROM THERE."
" **** ME."

THE GAME
NA are simply missing too many players from thier Grand Final team of 2007
They were pummelled by a superior opponent today
The score is a reflection of the Magpie dominance

I agree with this not because of the dramatics, but because I love to come on the forum and go into the live scores thread and read score by score for a game I have missed that day .. and thread titles like this give away the result. :(
