FOOTBALLERS From School

Postby Mark_Beswick » Wed Oct 17, 2007 9:58 pm

I have been compiling lists of school and footballers for some time. Ie All footballers from St Peters, Saint Michaels, Henley Beach, Norwood High....

Is anyone up to sharng footballers they went to school with and which school that was?

As schools and footballers are posted, I wil periodically add other footballers I have found also linking to that educational institution.

Ie - I went to Saint Michaels and played footy with

Scott A Camporeale, Darryl Poole,

Others at SMC - Gregory Anderson, Wayne Mahney, Warren Tredrea, Brett Ebert, Brad Ebert, Sam Fairclough, Vinnie Rugolo, (Adam Lees as a teacher), the Wilson Boys for Port Adelaide and Power, and there are many more

I went to school (Coomandook Area School) and played footy with Matthew Dent's older brothers, Martin Mattiner also went to the same school years later, as far as I know they are the only 2 to play AFL from that school. Robbie Walters (former Glenelg FF) also went to the school.

I played against a PAC side that included Craig Kelly, Kym Russell, a 14 year old Scott Russell, a Maynard brother, a guy Lang who played a few games for North and I think Scott Field???? Fair to say we copped an absolute caning that day on the Dequettville Tce Oval.

Very bad times for Igs that day.

When I was at "Hackney High" Tim Paech who went onto to play with Sturt was in my year. Also Rick Neagle (who played in Norwood's 82 Flag side) was a year above me. Steven Trigg was in my year a bit later but came via Gawler (?) High IIRC. Stephen Copping was a few years ahead of me apparently, but I don't remember him. They are the most notable that come to mind.
Funny thing is I always thought there were better players than Tim and Rick at school (as good as they were) but I suppose they didn't apply themselves.

No, the media release of the time. Will hunt up the ones from the other years. AFL is changing its media guide though to reflect original grassroots club of every listed player, not just their state league clubs they were drafted from.

Aww C'mon the one game of junior footy Tom Logan and Josh Willoughby had at Glenelg was the critical variable that resulted in them getting drafted......

I thought it was the AFL sponsor NAB that arranged this not the AFL?

I thought the NAB arranged the certificates that went to person that the draftee nominated as having the biggest impact on their footy development??

AFL buys the guernseys and then works with NAB to promote it in all the areas the jumpers go to. NAB gets on board because it ties in with their sponsorships of Auskick, 16s, 18s, draft etc
