THE NEXT STEP

As some of you may have read in the "Proposing to my girlfriend", i'm now an engaged man!

so, onto the next step we go! PLANNING THE WEDDING!

It's not going to be until the end of 2012/start 2013, as we've got a block of land we wanna do something with beforehand.

We want it to be a memorable experience for all involved, and not too "traditional" in terms of everything being "normal". I'm a different kinda guy, and i dont want my wedding to be stupid, but i just dont want it to be boring and want all our family and friends to enjoy themselves.

So what i'm after, if possible, is ideas of where to hold the ceremony and reception, and ideas of how to mix things up a bit. our budget would be somewhere around $10,000, but obviously would love to do it cheaper than that if possible! and i thought, if theres ways to make it a non-boring event that slashes on costs, then that would be super awesome!

any thoughts, ideas and suggestions are welcome!

Firstly, i haven't had a chance to congratulate you yet Banger, well done Mate

If you want something different that won't cost the earth, go for a stand up cocktail or even a bbq reception (depending on how casual you want to be I guess)

I'm sure the Yetti will do you a good deal on the wine

We attended my husbands 'nephews' wedding a couple of years ago - was the best wedding ever - even though it was 40+ degree day !

Very casual but still ellegant

Basically they had their wedding on the beach.
Which lead to the wedding reception being a 'beach' theme.
So shells on the table for decorations,
Shell placement cards etc, etc, etc

The bride even walked around in bare feet !
Was still a full on wedding feel because they still wore full wedding attire,
ie white wedding dress etc, etc.

Got some great photos of the bridal party diving into the water to cool down too.
A very memorable day for them both.

Only 'annoying' thing was 2 topless girls walked past during the wedding vowels
And decided to sunbake not far away - no respect...lol.

i was thinking of something along those lines, probably more the cocktail style rather than a BBQ. and the bar tab is the one thing i won't be being stingy on, just to ensure good times!

also, i forgot to add, i live in Victor Harbor, and would love a place in the southern suburbs for the ceremony and the reception, but it dosnt have to be down here.

Now that I'm in the same boat as you TBB, I'm pretty keen to hear everyone's ideas and experiences too.

You going to be steering away from church type ceremony and go for something outdoors?

Leave it up to her mate, my wife said to me "we're getting married on the October long weekend, that way it wont interfere with footy or cricket"
I said "No worries"
She then went ahead and done pretty much all of the organizing with a couple of friends. I'm not trying to sound chauvenistic but I see it as "her day", girls from a young age have a mental image of how they want their wedding to be, men are just happy that someone is silly enough to marry them.
Our wedding day turned out to be a blast and she was very happy. We actually had a "surprise wedding".

Got married last November (seems a lot longer than that) and the whole day was based around a casual format.

Married in the Gazebo in front of Norwood Oval (worked that in beautifully), with reception at the Semaphore Palais which was Cocktail style - Plenty of food and even more drink was had, and everyone seemed to have a very enjoyable night, worked out as close to perfect in terms of what we'd hoped for.

Obviously Im not suggesting the same venues, and each person will have a different view of how they'd like to do things, but I've always been a huge fan of the cocktail style in terms of making it an extra-sociable event.

Hire a jumping castle! (and yes, that is a serious suggestion. If I ever get married again I would definitely be looking into it for myself.)

I 100% agree queen, but she has said she dosnt wanna do it all herself, and wants a fair bit of my input.

one thing i'm trying to figure out, is how to somehow get around having to serve meals at the reception, even though we'll be having the reception at somewhere like a winery or something that would do meals. purely to cut down on costs.

any ideas?

i was thinking more along the lines of, instead of having the ceremony at 1 or 2pm, holding off till 5ish, be done at the ceremony by 6, then all the guests arrange their own dinner before we head off to the reception at around 8ish.

anyone notice any flaws in this idea?
