Talk on the national game

2010 players to look out for.

Postby hearts on fire » Thu Feb 11, 2010 12:12 am

With the NAB cup starting Friday, who should we be looking out for in new colours or new players?

I will be interested to see Brendan Fevola at the Lions and Mark Williams at Essendon (only bigger named players i could think of at the time).

and will be interested to see how the new kids go.

i think all the Supercoaches and DT coaches are on the lookout for prospective young talent... i know i am...

in DT i've got Big Bad Baz ($281,200), Hille ($237,300) and Palmer ($277,700) back from injury as a couple of cheapies testing the water.

in SC i've got on Hille ($311,300) and Mumford ($282,700) as my ruck combo, i think they'll increase in value and rack up a few points, Kennelly ($320,700) should go very well and again Palmer ($307,600) from injury and Dalziell ($347,800) in new colours.

more than anything i wanna see which of my bench kids are gettin a run and who looks like they might get some real action in 2010... keen as though!!!

Marcus Drum is one I am interested in. Hopefully he can secure a spot in the cats backline. See how he goes in NAB Cup, but one I will be looking at for Supercoach.

Some interesting calls there. A lot of these guys are cheap because they haven't played much footy last year. All of them are coming back from injury except Mummy and I think Dalziell. I reckon you are OTM about Hille being a potential cash cow but really you have to select one keeper in the rucks IMO and if you pick Mummy and Hille and stick with them their price might get to 400k but you'll be giving up a massive advantage to any opponent who has Cox, Sandilands, Jolly, Tippet or Kruezer. Mummy has plenty of competition for the ruck gig in Seaby, Orreal, Pyke, Currie and White and he was recruited not to be the number one ruck but to be provided an opportunity to see if he can. Mummy needs a lot of work and I reckon he is viewed as a long term prospect by the Swans but ruck duties might get shared around a bit by the Swannies this year. Mumford will be in his prime just when West Sydney join - that is why he was recruited and not to lead the Swan rucks this year.

Wade Skipper should get a bit of a run with the Hawks this year do you think? Hawthorn don't really have a ruckman and I would have thought he could be a good one for the bench. Only around $100k I reckon.

Yes, if you are going to pick Hille (I won't be!) then I think you need to go with either Cox, Sandilands or Jolly as the other one. I don't think it's a good idea to burn too many trades in your rucks (none if possible). Just my thoughts.

Skipper is a dud. And he is a dud that won't get any games once Renouf returns to fitness. Lobbe the better bet or WarnocK or Charman for a little bit more for a much bigger return.

300 Grand! A bit pricey for a guy who might not play all 22. If he gets early games he could be worth a punt but I reckon he's a big risk in the inital squad. Watch him and Hunt in the NAB. I don't reckon there is room for both in the Cat backline.

I reckon the Crows are good value this year. Sheeds agrees with me too so it's not just my bias talking!

- David McKay - good mid-range player with plenty of scope for improvement
- Bernie Vince - getting pricey but just hitting his straps, reckon his value will rise about $600000 this year providing he can cope with the extra attention he's bound to get from the opposition.
- Kurt Tippet - in the ruck for $400000ish, pretty good deal there I reckon.
- Patrick Dangerfield - will move into the midfield this year.

Someone, possibly Phil Davis, will slot in for Andy Otten as well. Possible cash cow in the making on half back there, so I will be keeping an eye on the pre-season comp to see who Craigy goes with.

I'm more interested in watching their 3rd pick, Luke Tapscott, absolute gun, not that the other two aren't either....

Good call Gingernuts. Plenty of value in the Blackbirds this year. I'm also liking Johncock, Maric, Stevens, Knights, Hentschell, Symes, Walker and the Birdman as those with plenty of upside as well. I hope Davis gets a gig just like all coaches will but I've got a bit of 'Patrenkoitis' when thinking about young Crows.

Yep, Hentchell & Burton are both potentially good value, but will they be consistent game to game or even play each week :-k
Walker could be ready for a "break out" year and play a full season.
Dunno about Stevens through, probably wouldn't pick him.
