I say well done to Ron Fuller for putting his hand up for the job, well done to the SAFC for appointing him for 5 years, now it's quite simple, the board of the SAFC, keep your bloody noses out of on the field matters and leave it to the coach, you have just appointed probably the best AVAILABLE coach around in S.A. at the minute. If Ron is left to do the job without the interference the last handful of coaches have alleged to have had I can see South improving alot sooner than later. quite simple, the Board put their noses in where it is not required this time, it could well be the total demise of the SAFC.

I wish Ron and his coaching staff and players all the best for 2010 and hope to see a better performance and rise up the ladder but not at North's expense ;)

WHo recommended what the new coaches salary would be before the process took place ?
Could it be Ron saw what was on offer and thought it was worthwhile quitting his firemans job and overseas trip.

I am surprised, but hey, if he has the desire to do so, then why wouldn't he take the position on besides that holiday?

Sure there were the cons that Mickyj listed, but you are guaranteed an improvement under him, South fans. Maybe not next year when talking about a 6th or 7th spot, but in years to come, finals will beckon. IF of course he is allowed to coach how he wants.

The cons are also pros in a way, because 9 times out of 10, the junior players he promotes do well. And I would say for players at South at the moment, will certainly respect him and will want to learn.

I extend my best wishes to Ron for the future and success for South.

Although time will tell this is possibly the best decision the club has made in the last 10 years. :)
As previously said if certain people can keep their thoughts and ideas to themselves and leave RF to his own devices, give him every support and resource he requires he will make a huge difference.
Stand by for some good news on recruits as well.

I agree 100% with Locky's comments, except I hope success is not at the Eagles expense ;)
Think he will do a great job down there....if he is allowed to!

I visit all clubs every year doing player profiles and Ron is and always has been really approachable (even to an outsider not having any connection to his club). Ron is thorough and doesnt appear to allow small things upset him. He is determined and honourable. I think SAFC have done well.

Interesting that the reason that South seem to have appointed Ron is the same reason that I heard that the Eagles are getting rid of him!

good luck ronnie & your going to need it as it would have to be the toughest gig in football atm.....i think as mentioned the biggest problem facing ron is the ability of the board to stay out of it completely

oh well why not
To slow to make moves
No plan B
Gets pissed off with players leaves them in the seconds
Plays his favourites even if they are out of form.
Will promote juniors who are not ready to play SANFL league football. For all the ones who have made the grade there are many who have fallen by the way side.
Lets not forget he wanted Biagi to play for the eagles and chased him .he went home with a large chunk of Eagles money in his pocket after round 4.
there u go ;)

My personal opinion is that Ron was a good coach for us but it was time for a change. Mickyj's list are definitely valid points on his coaching, but there are some positives that can be taken from this which I think will be beneficial from where South are currently at.

Too slow to make moves - it might help the players tough it out in a certain position given there probably won't be many alternatives in the team or in team selection.
Will promote juniors who are not ready to play SANFL league football - South will need to promote their youngsters if they are going to get anywhere.

Ultimately South needs an overhaul and I think this is a good start. Ron is proud on coaching a team to be competitive, but it will probably take a few years to get there ... whether the board has the same patience is another question (5 years or 5 weeks???).

Very interesting! 5 years is huge. I can't believe they've signed a contract for that long.

Sounds as if Fuller gets to run his own ship the way he wants. Good luck to him. Someone will eventually turn South Adelaide around for the better. Maybe it will be him?

Great appointment for South.Ronny has gained respect from the general football public in SA .
Just talking to a mate not long after his retirement saying although he was a foe of our team,he always held his head high, and showed a great deal of tenacity which was always to be admired.
He brings many great attributes to South that will no doubt get them heading in the right direction, good for the competition.
Cheers 8)

Just a thought ... it seems that most people (both South and non-South) are happy with this appointment - is that because the chance of a Port wooden spoon looks better than ever? ;)
