Centrals to have to play from the Elimination Final regardless of where they finish in the top 5... :-)

... somehow we have to make them earn it more than they already have.

Not to play North, Sturt or Glenelg next year. Only play Centrals at City Mazda Stadium not Elizabeth. Play Norwood, Port and South 5 times each. Seriously though, I wouldnt mind a friday night game and one at Adelaide Oval. Havent done those for a few years now.

There is no way the SANFL would ever consider a sat night prelim. There would be no interest as everyone would be having afl grand final dos, etc. A friday night prelim wouldnt be a bad idea though.

I'd agree to this providing Sturt was 5th. It would be good to knock them out and get our finals campaingn going

Working on this year's draw from A Central point this should mean for 2010
vs Sturt 3 times (ANZAC Day, Adelaide Oval, Home - Night, away)
vs Glenelg 3 times (home - Night, away 3rd match at Glenelg we played twice to Eliz in 08) One twighlight at Glenelg and one Sunday?
vs Eagles 2 times (home, away)
vs North 2 times (home - night, away)
vs West 3 times (home (maybe 1 night), away, 3rd match maybe Eliz having played at Riverland in 08 I think)
vs Norwood 2 times (home, away - Friday night at Parade...love those games just add extra security = logical)
vs Port 3 times (home - Night, away, 3rd game Adelaide Oval would be great)
vs South 2 times (home, away - Sunday at Noarlunga)

Like the idea of starting in the AFL week off to really promote the SANFL like we saw Grand Final week. Without AFL front lines the SANFL finally gets the promotion it deserves. Really like the 25 Round idea like we used to do some years back.

Suggested first Round
Friday Night
Norwood vs Sturt - Parade
Saturday Afternoon
Eagles vs Port Adelaide - Thebarton or Alberton
Saturday Night (6:30)
Central vs North Adelaide - Elizabeth
Sunday
South Adelaide vs Glenelg - Noarlunga
Bye West Adelaide

Good Rivalry Matches for great promotion (sorry Westies fans - bloody bye)

I do still like the Grand Final being on the long weekend a week after AFL GF again giving the SANFL it's deserved coverage whoever is in the Grand Final.

I think the following changes would help the SANFL to grow the popularity of the code in S.A if tried in season 2010,

1, A Friday Night match every round at the begining of the Season whilst the weather is good. - Friday night matches bring in much higher crowds which gets the season off to a good start.

2, A return to a Double Header fixture.

3, More than one game at Thebarton through the season whether it involves the Eagles or not.

4, Each Club over two seasons (4 matches one year, five the other) to host a country game and take some responsability for promoting the SANFL in their zone.

5, A properly promoted and advertised Heritage Round focused on a specific era of SANFL footy.

I think the following changes would help the SANFL to grow the popularity of the code in S.A if tried in season 2010,

1, A Friday Night match every round at the begining of the Season whilst the weather is good. - Friday night matches bring in much higher crowds which gets the season off to a good start.

Totally agree, unless Crows have Friday Night game or Power are at AAMI.
Alas only Norwood is fit for Friday Nights currently. Get Adelaide Oval done and lights at the Bay and from 2011 should be a go-er. Other option is a West, Eagles, SAAFL combo to get something at Thebarton. See option 3.

2, A return to a Double Header fixture.

Not sold on this one. Where would it be (as Adelaide Oval currently does not have the changerooms) and what benefit would sacrificing a home match (& income from it) bring in bigger crowds? Only one I could see working is if it involved South v Central game at Adelaide, that would save a lot of travel for one set of supporters and old Southies still love games at the Adelaide Oval

3, More than one game at Thebarton through the season whether it involves the Eagles or not.

Agreed I think. Personally I think West, Eagles and SAAFL should join forces, get some funding to restore the lights to playing standard and then Option 1 kicks in. Eagles and West play maybe 2 night games each there which based on the experience Central and Norwood have with Night football would really increase their attendances.

4, Each Club over two seasons (4 matches one year, five the other) to host a country game and take some responsability for promoting the SANFL in their zone.

Partially agree - South, West, Eagles and Sturt should get together and work out a way they have a home country game every second year. Hardest thing with country games is getting a visting club to agree. These are four clubs who want games, work with each other to have one home, one away each season. All four clubs have close country zones. It gets harder for North, Port & Glenelg given cost & distance. That leaves Central and Norwood who have close country zones but would probably seem a drop off in home game attendance if they took one to their zone.

5, A properly promoted and advertised Heritage Round focused on a specific era of SANFL footy.

Do it with SA History Trust's history week which goes over two weekends, allows eight clubs to have a home game where they can promote their herritage.

This would be great to start the year. You'd get 5,000+ at the first three matches, and probably 3,500 or so at Noarlunga.

Speaking of Centrals I would like to see better lights at their oval, the ones they have currently are deplorable; the night game Sturt v Centrals was a waste of money and if they are to continue playing night fixtures they would have to be upgraded, can't be that flash for the players either

Norwood not to play (and lose) a blockbuster opening Friday night of the season.

All Friday night matches at Norwood not to feature the home team.
