Birdwood may recruit well and be competitive, too early to tell. You would think though regardless they would finish bottom 3 first year.

be interested to hear everyones opinion!

I believe they've got a 3 year plan to be quite competitive and then hope to be successful within 5 years.
From what I've seen and heard the club's U8's through to U14's are very strong, U17's were strong this year but about a dozen go up to seniors, B's will be quite competitive (prob not Mt Lofty standard) and A's will struggle in the first 2-3 years.

A Birdwood guy had a letter in the budget saying they're doing it to keep promising colts at the club as they were losing to many quality players e.g Coad, Amber brothers.

It will be interesting to see if they head back?

Not sure about recruiting, hard to tell at this time of the year. But I'm guessing they would want to recruit pretty well to be competitive considering they only finished 5th in Country.

i cant see birdwood being anywhere near top 5 in the nxt 2-3 yrs. i know a lot of people rate div2 but i just cant see them being any good. most of the years that we were being towled up each week, we consistantly beat the div2 sides we played in trials. nairne, echunga?. and was it ironbank that either won or atleast played in 3 consecutive GFs and then made the jump and failed. from what i hear the teams are normally made up of 1-3 quality players and the rest either hard nuts or people that really run hard. but most struggle to hit a target. obviously theyll have to recruit well, but id say theyd need half a new side. correct me if im wrong, just my thoughts.

any country players out there id be interested to find out how many games a team like bridgewater (consistantly bottom 2) would go in your league. make the finals?? dare say kangarilla, TV, and meadows would account for them easily, but what about the others.

the raiders would finish 4th. and would be very competitive against the top 3 sides. apart from the few pastings from uris and lofty and a couple others they did alright. beat barker and thunderers and were even with both teams again at 3/4 in last outing and just lost. had alot of injuries which cann't be used for an excuse all the time. against lobethal and magpies again were very even for most of the game. believe raiders would be very competitive and rekon that they should go to div 2 to get a bit of confidence back!

JQ ... Word on the streets is that Tony Fielke and Tony Roach in the mix as well, together with a favorite son who ventured for a bit of coaching experience at Prospect. However, after a few recent coaching flops, the Dogs are taking their time to get it right ... this time!!!

P.S. ... Notice that the former 'mouth from Birdwood' Simon Johnson has been appointed to coach Angaston next year. Hope the players are issued with ear-muffs!

yeh thats what i thought everyone would say i personally believe that the difference between div 1 and div 2 is just too great and birdwood will really struggle next year! it would have been much better to bring kangarilla up perhaps they could be competitive in div 1, winning a grand final by 136 points is just rediculous!

dont think it would have been 136 points if the second best team, TV were in it but they lost a game they shouldnt have.

whateva ron, i said any div2 players have a comment admittedly you should be one but you arent. i highly doubt shanty would finish any higher 4-5.

good work JQ, an inside man always helps.

boys any truth in the rumour i heard today about chris shee meeting his ex-captain scottie sutherland at uris nxt yr.

Raiders would finish in top 3 if went down to country. They would win all at home and then beat the easy beats away. All they would need is 1-2 other players and they would push for flag.
Tony Roach will be too expensive for Onkas coach - understand he wants $15-$20K fee which is too much I would have thought.
Collins and Anderson will be right up there. Their deadline of 27/10 will affect a few as no doubt applicants would have applied elsewhere and may get snapped up.
Anderson took Gaza to 3 third placings in a row after finishing minor premiers each year.

He still may end up there. It's between Onkas and Gaza for his services.

Shane collins is an absolute gun if appointed to onkas they will give the title in 2007 a good shake. He is very well repected and his training at north adealide the past few years will give him great knowledge of the game.

I heard Fielke had applied for Sturt coaching job as well. Bridgewater would be top 3 in country div. The gap between central and country div about 25 goals.

Is that the same Shane Collins that was overheard at this years HFL Prelim saying (and I quote) "matchday preparation is overrated. You are wasting your time"

With this attitude, the only title onkas will shake will be the "most beers on friday before a game" title.
