Dutchy, no point in me posting a match review when R&B did a magnificent job with his and comprehensively covered both sides of the coin.

Well done R&B, thoroughly enjoyed it mate...

I had planned to post mine last night but went to a mates house for dinner and ended up drinking too much, not feeling the greatest this morning and then headed to Prospect to wacth North v Norwood about midday, so just ran out of time.

Again, well done to Westies, great for their supporters to have something to look forward to in coming years...

Well done to Westies.
Huge effort - I saw them against the Dogs earlier in the season and you could see the improvement. This time they took the chocolates.
I was in the Renmark Football Club when I heard we'd lost and I can promise you there were some very happy Rovers there knowing that Benno had done well in a win against the Dogs.

Great display of perseverence from West which again illustrates the positive impact Andy Collins is having on the club.

In all honesty though, the Dogs just find it hard to find that killer instinct at this time of the year and history shows they generally will drop a couple of games that really should be walk up wins.

As a supporter it's easy to write off a few ordinary performances, knowing that the hunger will be there again in September, and yes I know, there will be a time when we reach the end of this great dynasty. I just dont reckon the end is nigh just yet though.

As for the Gowans, well they really are quite unique aren't they! As SMAC rightly says though, they are excused the odd brain fade given the contribution they have made in the last 10 years. And- I am yet to see a lack of discipline from them cost us in a "big" game.

You've got that exactly right. The Gowans twins might go off the boil from time to time or do something stupid here and there, but ultimately, any honest supporter would gladly have had them at their club this decade.

That might be true but ask yourself if you'd have them now, I think the answer would be a resounding no.

Nope, i disagree. I still think that the positives they bring to the side massively outweigh the negatives. And the negatives are blown massively out of proportion. I actually think the fact that they get frustrated when things aren't going right is good, cause they obviously still care and have the passion. Anyway, im not about to judge them on what they do in June/July.......

Yeah. I'm surprised you remembered who won in '06, everyone seems to assume it was Central (and for good reason, too) ;)

Cutterman another one of these supporters that thrives on his rival clubs losing moreso than enjoying his clubs victories.

The funny thing is despite losing to West, James Gowans coming to the end of his career, and the dynasty coming to an end. We are still sitting 2nd and are looking good for the double chance.

No panick stations at the Dogs, we were just outplayed by a more commited side on the day. That will be rectified on the track this week and with the players to come into the side we probably have the most room for improvement out of all the top 6 sides.

I would think that the Eagles are more of a chance to miss the 5 than North based on form and the draw and given we have played 2 less games than the Eagles!

Spot on, North will make the five easy IMO.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Well done to West. They are the improvers this season.

As for the wishfull thinking about the end of the doggy dynasty - well our plan is for a top 3 spot. A flag can be won from there as we showed last year.
We used to be good :-(

I'm with you. I'll take the Gowans twins right now. I think just their presence on the field would turn us from a team that is a fair chance for the flag to a team that is a very good chance. What they'd bring is the passion and endeavour when we're under the pump. We don't need the Gowans when we're in full flight, we smash teams when we are, but if we're under the pump, need something to happen a la last years two losing finals, last quarter against Centrals, second quarter against Glenelg, they might be the boys that halt the play and re-establish some confidence within the team.

Jee wiz I can remember when us Central supporters used to celebrate a minor round win like you West supporters are doing now lets put this in perspective, Its just a minor round win at your home ground, hasnt proven anything if you dont come out next week and back it up. I seem to remember Sturt flogged us by 80+ points and a week later were flogged by an undermanned North team, Just another hiccup that if you go back over our time at the top happens around this time every year, Good luck to West a better team on the day.

Maybe this is why centrals lost, to them it was "just another minor round game." Complacency may have crept in?

To us West supporters it was more than "just a minor round win" it gave us the belief and results that we are finally on the improve and it was worth driving to Waikerie to make the win even more satisfying.

Good on the West supporters for celebrating the win, isn't that what going to the football is about, supporting your team with all the passion in the world. It's all good and well to only get carried away after a grand final win but unfortunatly you can't win a grand final without winning minor round games.
