What I admired about Glenelg tonight was that they were hard at the ball, really applied the pressure around the packs, so often came out with the ball, plus they have a very strong contested marking team. For me I thought Glenelg could have won by a lot more, I certainly expected as much midway through the second term.

As for Sturt, they were very poor once again. That's two weeks straight they've gone from giants to absolute paupers. I don't understand how you can smash Centrals so comprehensively one week, but then be so incredibly off the mark the following fortnight against North Adelaide and Glenelg. Obviously its stupid to say Sturt has no talent and are pretenders, they played 9 games straight this year where they were anything from good to bloody amazing.

... but the wheels have certainly fallen off and like Centrals, they now have the bye to sort themselves out.

My thoughts on the future... well I think Sturt are setting themselves up for a possible slide that may result in another failed Elimination Final, which would be a disaster of a season. For Glenelg, they're good and certainly the No.1 challenger to the Doggies. Can they beat the Doggies on their current form, in my mind, no, just don't look like they put in a concerted effort for four quarters. Even tonight, they could have buried Sturt, but really, probably took it a bit easy in the second half.

They'll need to get past that, otherwise it'll be 2008 all over again...

Anyway, winners are grinners and Glenelg more than deserved the accolades tonight.

As for the crowd, a good crowd at what is quickly becoming a sh**house oval. Knocking down that stand, geez, only the SACA could decide to do something so outrageously stupid. Bunch of whackers...

A fairly reasonable summation there ... except that the Blues have plenty of time to regroup and are still very much in contention for the top 3.

Sturt's problems with the Bays are fairly similar to the Bays against Central and peversely, Sturt cause the Doggies a lot of trouble.

This will make for an interesting final series if they end up in the top 3 again this year (no, not discounting the Roosters at all), and FFS, can you please beat the Doggies if you play them again in the finals. ;)

Yeah... yeah... we know... dropping that Qualifying Final ruined it for everyone.

I noticed some whining in the live update thread from ST... geez... that 14 goal humiliation must have really pushed some buttons... much better to get people back with some witty comments than a whiny poke.

Example...

Bays 14.12 96
Bitches 8.4 52

or whatever it says? Rather than go waah waah waah you lot suck <toss toys out of pram>

better off going...

Bitches? Oh that's right, its not a Grand Final, cos if it was, we all know Glenelg likes playing the lead female role there...

Much more amusing for the readers...

The Blues won the early game in the 18's comfortably, even though the ground announcer thought they were the ressies!

Geez Sturt, making Glenelg look good again!

Funny how some sides match up.

just read through the posts in the Live Scores ... LOL, lots of side banter, the game must have been boring on the live stream, well the bits you could hear anyway!

To be honest, because the sting was out of the game at half-time, it was bloody cold, and the crowd all on one side, there wasn't a lot of excitement in the 2nd.

How bad was the catering at Adelaide Oval?
We had 20+ go down in a bus so that we could have a few cold ones and not have to drive.
The queues were that long that most of us didn't even bother to have anything to drink at the ground.
Disgraceful!
Trying to get food was not much better.

Agreed good summation csbowes. However before the game I was concerned about Sturt as they are a good side and if you give them any latitude they can cut you to shreds. So happy our boys did the business and were hard at it tonight.

Arguably our best effort for the year but as identified by Rubbers afterwards still a few things to work on if we are going to be a serious premiership contender.

Despite tonights effort I still reckon Sturt will be there abouts come September.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Well this thread is really Brady Bunch, everyone being nice to eachother and all ;) .

We seem to be really having trouble playing against teams that use the zone very well. Out of the games i've seen this year (I haven't only been to Sturt matches) North and Glenelg seem to be the most disciplined players at this. They stick to their area very well and once there is a turnover they spread very well (no pun intended, Bays fans).

We seem to only have the skills when we're not pressured and cough it up badly when put to the sword.
Glenelg have a good mix of quicks and talls. Their talls snatch everything that comes their way.
Sounds stupid but in the last 3 matches i've enjoyed watching 3 sides play very enjoyable football. Sturt first, North last week, Glenelg tonight. Didn't enjoy the 2 losses of course, just enjoyed watching some very good skills on display. Now if I could please see a game where both sides play really good footy, that would be great.

Happy to lend you the corresponding game at the Bay last year - it was a cracker of a game, both sides playing great footy.

I think noone is getting too worried about the result of a game in June. Glenelg and Sturt could meet another three times this year, so still a lot of footy to be played in 2009.

Peter, I suspect that wish may be granted for those that venture to the Ponderosa tomorrow ...

Thanks,

PS, could you let Dad know I'll be late home tonight.

Here's the story of a lovely lady
Who was bringing up three very lovely girls.
All of them had hair of gold, like their mother,
The youngest one in curls.

Here's the store, of a man named Brady,
Who was busy with three boys of his own,
They were four men, living all together,
Yet they were all alone.

Till the one day when the lady met this fellow
And they knew it was much more than a hunch,
That this group would somehow form a family.
That's the way we all became the Brady Bunch.
The Brady Bunch,

That's the way we all became the Brady Bunch.
The Brady Bunch.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

well that certainly was a massive improvement on last week.

absolutely dominated the first half, close to the best ive seen us play this year.

Cranstons work in ruck was brilliant and he just started the ball rolling everytime.

great to see the running through the middle

Backwell on the run hitting a leading forward - im not sure if there is a better player with that quality disposal

GREAT WORK BY MILLSY to kick a lovely goal in the south-eastern pocket

second half, was even, expected though, but it was good that we held the margin.
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!
