Any footy historian would be able to tell you MC that all clubs used to wear guernseys with a white number on the back and also plain white shorts. I agree the numbers were very difficult to see, but honestly did it really matter? Was a terriffic day for the footy club and a real success, pity the A grade let the club down a bit with their efforts. We're just lucky we get another chance to rectify it unlike our performance in last years big game!

I thought the jumpers served thier purpose well and they were excepted by most people that mattered very very well, particularly the bidders at the auction after the match. Together the set of 21 guernseys probably wouldve fetched over $15,000 for the footy club, with the highest purchased for around the $1800 mark and 2 or 3 over $1500. This alone was a great reward for the efforts of Jimmy Franks and the centenary organising committee of the club, they did a fantastic job. The day was a good reminder of how lucky we are to play for such a great footy club.

I was told Saturday night about the white numbers and white shorts and it was only in the seventies that they started changing this. I have a feeling you were standing next to me when I was told this too. ;) From a spectator point of view it was impossible to tell what number was what but there definately was a distinct contrast in guernseys from us. The AFL would have been happy with their "no clash" policy.

That is a sensational effort to raise that sort of money and obviously well done to your supporters for putting their hands in their pockets. The recent rain would have helped bump up the prices no doubt with many local farmers looking at a good year.

It was a great crowd on Saturday and a lot of passion from both sides was shown on and off the field. It is what makes Country Footy so great.
If you don't like it, change it. If you don't want to change it, it can't be that bad!

Who would have thought that you wouldn't be able to tell who was who with white numbers on a white guernsey.

I know I'm gonna get slammed for this but the question has to be asked...................

DO MALLALA CHOKE ON BIG OCCASIONS WHEN PLAYING AT HOME???????????

Maybe Ace & Jack can help me answering this. Say Hi to your Mum's for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm with Old School, I don't think they choked last year, just got it wrong on the day. And speaking from experience, whenever our club has been presented with guernseys at half time for another premiership reunion against Mallala, we have lost. It disrupts the normal routine somewhat, and not being professional athletes maybe country footballers don't cope as well. Having said that, both times v Mallala they have had a very good side, so that's probably had a fair bit to do with it as well!

the evidence is overwhelming - yes they do - sept 2008 for example

United played the better footy yesterday, pretty simple really. Certainly wont hurt Mallala to have a loss.

Your right there Swamp. As much as i loved that win on saturday and as much as it has brought us back into the mix, i can't help but feel that we have probably given Mallala the wake up call that they could've done with before last years finals. Wouldn't like to be the teams playing them in the next couple of weeks!

What paper wher you reading after the last minor round game last year when HWE beat the Pies?? that wasnt the wake up call they needed?

Anyhoo, the main story at Bomberland on Saturday (for us anyway!), was Dallas Hill's 12 goals in the senior colts followed by another 7 in the B Grade! Fair day out! I think he went back to Rick's pub and put his left foot (all the good players are leftys!) in one of the ice buckets behind the bar! Can play the kid! For a young bloke who's still got another season in senior colts after this one, he reads the flight of the ball amazingly well. Pretty windy Sat'dy too. Between Dallas (Cowboy to his mates) and Shane McGuiness, they tore the Bombers to shreds in both games they played (oh to be fit enough to do that!). Pt Wakefield probably hasn't seen two kids with this much talent since the Cicolella's were young! Not sure how much we'll see of them in the future, I think Shane has already been playing some footy with the Eagles, and some cricket with West Torrens (I hate blokes like that, Ryan Darling and Jason Earl types!), so you never know. Sorry for the book, I do enjoy it when the young lads do well!

By way lads, perhaps Mallala didnt choke and HWE are a bloody good team...... the 08 Premiership although one we weren't expected to win all year (unlike the year before when we choked against United in the Prelim) was always a 50/50 chance come GF Day. We play well against Mallala and hopefully will comtinue to do so. scores below from http://www.countryfooty.com.au

I certainly was standing with u MC and to me given the fact it wasn't until the 70's when this changed, it seems quite obvious why Mallala choose the white number and white shorts - because they had worn it for 60-65 years of its history!! Anyway lets move on, i hate to have to bring up the yellow shorts saga :D :D

Sounds about right Jack??
Its the same in most aspects of life, those envious of others will always try and knock the image of those to which they aspire!

Summary of Premierships
23 - Mallala
12 - Balaklava
11 - Hummocks United
7 - Hamley Bridge, Wasleys
6 - Long Plains, Dublin
5 - Hummocks/Watchman
3 - United, Virginia
2 - Watchman, Grace Plains, Port Wakefield
1 - South Gawler, Two Wells

It realise this has no bearing on this year at all, but if you blokes are gonna have a crack at Mallala, at least justify it.

Geez the magpies have copped their fair share after their efforts on the weekend, which is only fair, given you only as good as your last game. Jack the MFC would be the last club to go around "tell" everyone how good they are as your suggesting, so why are you going down this path. One of the great attributes of country football clubs is generally their modesty and i cant see why Mallala would be seen as anything different.

The magpies clearly have a fair bit of work to do to remain in the upper half of the 4 this season and we knew that before Saturday, given 3 of the 6 wins we've had previously had this year have been by less than 2 kicks.

I think the weekends round of footy was a great reflection of our competition at the moment. Its very even with all sides, on their day capable of beating the others. Hamley would be the only exception, but I think most HBFC people would understand this given they have such a super young list that they will in time become competitive, I'm certain. Yes there are some teams that have shown that they will definately be around the mark in Sept, but like I said I dont think we could confidently discount any of these at the moment.

All is well for an exciting second half of the season, i cant believe we're half way already!

Theres good reason for that my good friend, its because we arent half way yet ;) Clubs have played 6-7 matches with 9-10 to go, couple more weeks to get over the hump yet mate.

Whos the current most-A grade gamer at your club at the moment. Gone are the days I feel when we have a 350 gamer in the A grade for whatever reason. At Mallala I think Paul Blacket would have the most with prob around the 250 mark, Daniel Jennings prob around 200 and Dave Cawrse must have >150.

Dunno mate. Current A Graders Pymy and Warnesy are over the 200 mark. I think Lurch, Mansfield and Sobey are over the 150 mark. Jamo Baker and Travvy Opitz are still running around in the B's and I think they are both over the 200 mark.

At Balaklava the players with the most Peckers Games would be Grant Wilmer (over 200), Vinny Taylor and Luke Tezacker in the A's.

I’m pretty sure “your right your right” is closer to 300, I remember him telling me a couple months ago. He’s about 34 and has been playing since around 15 so that’s plausible, remembering he’s had a yr overseas and a couple of knee ops.

Roly only started at Balak in 2000 and has had many injuries, would think his "Peckers" total would only be around 100 or so.
