Is getting smashed by the other ruckman every week the best for his development? Thats what will happen when he comes up against any ruckman with more bulk and/or experience than him, which would be 90% of them

I would say yes.

Aren't the transfer rules different with players recruited directly from SANFL clubs as opposed to players recruited via the mini-draft. I was led to believe it's up the SANFL club/individual player to change clubs if brought up through an SANFL club ranks, whereas the AFL clubs can move players around that have come via the mini-draft.

Luke Jericho from Westies to Norwood was a players lifestyle choice

This would be a Port Power directive and to be brutally honest Westies have got the weakest of any clubs Ruck giving him a very good chance to ruck in a senior side.

All we have is Moran when not on AFL duty, DeJong when not suspended and Bornholm who is trying hard as a fill in ruckman

If a guy has to change clubs to get a league game then he's obviously not AFL standard. Griffin waited and forced his way in. Port want an AFL ruckman, not an SANFL one and if Lobbe can't get into the port side then he's not AFL standard. Giles has come in and done well lately and will soon make himself a vital part of the side if he keeps it up. The power move far too many playeres and seldom do they really become good players. I think it makes them think they don't have to work hard to get rewards, the club will just hand it too them.

As I've said before, Lobbe is a skinny kid who needs development. With those comments, I reckon you're just upset because Port moved Lockwood and Surjan to the Magpies.

Well, I am. Not so much upset but annoyed. As with Gilligan. These guys were taken in a draft, which is based on a premise of fairness and equity. Then for whatever reason are deemed to better progress their careers by moving them to Port Magpies. Fortunately this crap hasn't happened as much in recent times. I know this is history and off topic, but you're right to an extent "beenreal", it was annoying unfair. But good riddance to Surjan. Unfortunately for Bowen I heard he's suffering quite a bit with chronic back problems. Hopefully the power/afl have looked after him a bit in his retirement.

Might be talking about young Flanigan fella. Very unlucky not to be playing reserves at Sturt but cannot get a game currently..
I played against Flanigan last week in Div 3 in the ammo's. Good footballer, should get a crack at Reserves level at least.

I remember seeing something about Lockwood on the ABC or Fox footy a few years ago about how he was dealing with his back problems. From what i remember he was in a pretty bad way, to the point where he couldn't even walk for extended periods without needing to rest. It was at the point where it affected his ability to work i believe. It was pretty sad to see a guy, who should have been in the physical prime of his life, be in such a bad way. I too hope the AFL have looked after him, but judging by the way the current administration operates, once you're on the scrapheap and not generating revenue for the comp then you're on your own (Unless you are from the Gold Coast or West Sydney)!

Both Flanigan and Lobbe have been named in the Westies reserve team this week.
