another junior...Papps promoted today and I thought he did well for his first game....

Salter is awesome....won't be too long before he absolutely destroys opposition teams regularly.....

this lad Allmond is also very good...he is allowing Ron to play Treeby and Jarrad anywhere he wishes.....

Jacky is starting to cut teams to pieces with his pace and overhead marking...

good all round effort today with all playing well......

CCL I think Broadbent's game improved when the Eagles stopped giving him the ball to kick in  .Not some of the lads finest moments.
But I think the Power assistant sitting near me would have been impressed with Broadbents and Salters game .
JJ finally showed why he was taken ahead of the PUP in that years draft.
Allmond what a kid what a player .He may not get wet in the shower but he is a real goer.
Daveron is another one who showed great endeavour, dont you like the way our guys played on after head butting each other. Not like when the bays hit each other in the marking contest, sorry guys only stirring ;) .
The kids who come in are showing the older ones the way .the same as they did last year .
And everyone must love Cheeps efforts. For mine this was cheeps best game .

Eagles fans we must get to as many if not to all Eagles games .BUT we must be in attendance at home games .We need flag favourites like the bays   ;) to fear coming to Oval AVE.Just the way teams hate Elizabeth. We must be there and in Voice(I still have mine just) and we must be heard. And we have to play the greatest club song in the world over and over and over when we win.
Sorry ranting and raving here ;)

Did anyone on here see what happened and who was hit and stuff.

This happened right in front of me, we were standing directly behind and these two knobs who were also Eagles members were spilling drinks, spitting on, verbally abusing a lesser minded Eagles flag person. After a while the lesser minded one came over and one of the knobs used a full can and smashed him over head. The other knob continued to harass everyone and for a while it looked like a few ppl might of been ready I smack the shizen out of him. My mate had his details taken as a witness to what happened. Unfortunately the shame foto I tried taking didn't work.

saw it written some where before yesterday's game .
You played in the GF last year or did u forget that.

I am editing this .Pretty sure I heard you guys called flag favourites on channel 7 news last night.and i quote (not word for word) Eagles have beaten flag favourites glenleg at woodville oval.
Get mad with 7 and your own team for losing to a team that struggled against west.
And i keep saying to bayman odds mean nothing in a two horse or dog race.

Wonderful team effort today. Things started to click after 1st Qtr.

Happy we were able to pull away in the 4th, was a little nervous at 3/4time.
I know the Bays had no bench and it was warm, but if they had kicked the first couple....who knows??

I have egg on my face after picking Bays by plenty....that's footy.
Very happy I was wrong.

firstly what is this 'glenleg' i don't want to merg with that caffe` latte` set because then i'd have to barrack for the same team as MAL

secondly odds do mean a thing not to the actual contest but to determine whether there is any value in having a bet..i thought $1.42 sturt & $1.33 norwood were (& proven to be) good value bets where as in the other 2 games there was no such value, i did notice that the eagles did shorten so someone thought the eagles were good value & this was proven correct
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

and I am glad you never mentioned I put up some where on the net ;) that if the eagles won they should pay 50 bucks .IMHO I thought we were that far behind .

Cheer up mate .

Perhaps what I am trying to say in my clumsy way there is no such thing as a sure bet .

its a pity that Mickan is bringing that AFL zoning rubbish into the SANFL......

but I guess its a sign of the times....for the worse I reckon.....

the Eagles stuck to their structure and relied on clearing the ball and running the lines.......

something they persisted at and eventually did very well.....

but like Glenelg in the first quarter could not finish off in front of goal more reliably.....

if either side did that they would have finsihed the other right off.....

pity to hear of the fight....yes ban the bloke...

one other thing that happened that I and a few others witnessed which was very dangerous and frightening to people in cars....

was the three very drunk (won't say who) supporters outside the Oval after the game walking in front of cars and standing in the middle of the road stopping trafic for no reason.......

there was also one opposition supporter who seemed to be with them.....

I only saw one of them do it but.....not good lads.....someone could have easily got injured......

not to mention scaring the crap out of the person in the car.....

funny they never took on the ABC telecast prime mover that drove past them next....

they suddenly came to their senses.......

however the plus for them they were waiting for a cab......

no one wants to see someone badly injured.......

The culprit was caught and was taken away by police. It seemed like the person who did it had a little too much to drink and started picking on someone a little less fortunate than himself. He didn't last long after the incident though because from what I saw some people jumped on him straight away.

I heard some people at presentations say that the Club had already taken away someone's membership due to the incident. If this was the case, well done to the Club for taking such quick action.

Just shows that no amount of security can stop idiots being idiots.

Hope you all enjoyed the Ladies tent as much as I did! :D

I only watched the game on tv - a great effort by the Eagles. Glenelg's use of the cluster zone was interesting. The Eagles seemed to find it hard to break through early and were stuck from well inside Glenelg's 50 up to centre wing on many occasions, but once through, were able to have an open forward line. I would've thought the zone would only work if it was used right up and down the field. Even so, it's a crap tactic and I hope, for the betterment of the SANFL, Mickan shelves it asap.

The Eagles pressure and intensity around the ball was at the level required. It is something all players can control, and only works if all 21 players apply it, so hopefully we see more of it. It is the difference between being a top 3 team and missing the finals. Treeby does this well and others followed his lead.

Three players are making a big difference to our midfield so far this year that weren't in the picture last season. Cheep, Allmond and Cicolella. All are quality players. Obviously we all know about Cicolella, but given his absence the last couple of seasons, he is like a new recruit. Cheep adds that toughness - Cooper like - and Allmond is just a quality young player ready made for this level.

Broadbent is a bonus and we won't see much more of him at our club. Great to see him being used in the midfield more in this match. His clearance work is excellent.

Jacky and Salter were great in the forward line and Grocke and Westbrook provided that spark around half forward.

All in all, a very good win and they should take a lot from this going forward. Now to do something we couldn't do last year, beat Port Adelaide!

This zone crap seems to be creeping in to the SANFL, not only by Mickan but yesterday West made a very poor attempt at the same thing. Good to see the Eagles break through it, we might revert back to some real footy now.

Was around the area and seen the incident as it happened - the police got the culprit. The most embarrasing thing about it all was the culprit was also an Eagles supporter. Amazing as it sounds but unforunately that is the case.

Must say I saw a few bays players(backmen i think) take a backward step when near Cheep.I'm not saying everything he does is legal but its something we have missed for awhile ;) .
Plus saw Cheep chase and chase and chase and put pressure on a backman which worked in the eagles favour.
Allmond not much of him but he is so good on that wing .
That cica goal from the boundary throw in was classic cica .

Something I have noticed since luke Jarrad and co have crossed the border to join our great club. These ex pat Vics sure can tackle very very well and hard.
