Struth, I can't believe this line keeps getting trotted out. Hayden had plenty of chance to prove he could regain form.
No one quickly jumped on him - his form slumped and progressively got worse. He had his form slump in England, that was his chance as an older player to show he still had it.
At his age he could afford no more form slumps.
Hussey isnt getting any younger.

Do you honestly believe that? He does not even average 40 in state cricket, yet you think he can average 40 at International level?

How must Bichel be feeling not to be a few years younger? He'd have had a decent test career if he was starting about now.

Most of the Aussies I think would average more for Australia than there state, he is only 27, you dont hit your peak as a batsmen until the age of 30, 31 usually.

thats ages ago, anyway, i reckon Mike's on his last few chances, if he doesn't perform this Test and Australia lose, he could be in a bit of trouble.

Aust in WI 2008, av 22.83
Aust in India 2008/09, av 56.28
NZ in Aust 2008/09, av 35.00
SA in Aust 2008/09, av 17.00
Aust in SA 2008/09, av 2.00 (so far)
I don't care what he did before, that man has to score some runs this series. Despite what DW says, Haydos didn't have 4 bad series out of 5 to the extent the Huss has.
In fairness, the 5th series is currently unfinished and maybe Mr Cricket will return these next 2 tests and only make it 3 bad series in 5 and then fly off to England.
But at 34 in May, it's fair to say he has past his peak and on the downward slide to the dreaded 37

These were Hayden's stats in his last 5 tours.
Sri Lanka 31
India 82
India 33
NZ 10.7
SA 19.50
So that is 4/5 of his last tours that he did not contribute as would have been expected, so 4 of them are failures if we are using the same formula that we are using for Hussey.
