Pretty good side mate, the only weakness i can probably see is the backline. Hodge, Gilbee and Goddard should all score consistently, Surjan is average, Hurn has had a pretty indifferent pre season and all the others are unproven players who will be up and down but apart from that side looks pretty reasonable.

But i could be proven very wrong.

Totally agree with you, in previous years i have generally gone with a really strong backline and its been ok but not great. So this year im trying a new strategy and stocking up in the midfield and forwards

Though there is still a few weeks before games start and changes maybe made.

Also could we do an SAFOOTY team based on all our expert opinions, maybe we could vote for players and place them in the team that way. Then we could versus those thugs from bigfooty lol.

Trengove is on the long term injury list as of today.

And will Dangerfield ever get a game?

DEFENDERS
-L.Hodge
-B.Goddard
-L.Gilbee
-J.Surjan
-S.Hurn
-S.Hill
-N.Grima
-Z.Dawson
-J.Trengrove

MIDFIELDERS
-G.Ablett
-J.Corey

-S.Mitchell
-C.Judd
-B.Cousins
-P.Dangerfield
-J.Davenport

RUCKS
-J.Koschitcke

-J.Messen
-S.Jacobs

FORWARDS
-N.Riewoldt
-L.Franklin
-B.Fevola
-S.Dew
-S.Higgins
-T.Hentchel
-J.Ziebell
-S.Sidebottom
-T.Walker

That looks more like a SuperCoach side than a Dream Team side. For example, Gilbee is a SC gun but doesn't rack up anywhere near the same amount of points in DT. Gary Ablett is THE best SC player but several are ahead of him in DT including some that are much cheaper. Chris Judd is another must have SC player but hardly a lock for a DT side. Corey is an absolute DT gun so nice spot up there.

Your backline, while it contains some guns also has a couple of spuds. The biggest of these is Hurn. Last year I was all over Hurny thinking that he'd get a bit of a run in the midfield but he was only pulling 50's for me and that was SC points (a higher scoring game). Your last three defenders are going to make you put on weight because they will be opening up a donut shop and you'll be burning trades trying to get the regulars in. Save yourself the trouble and do so BEFORE the season starts. Dawson is cheap for a reason.

Your rucks are absolutely shocking. You need at least one of Cox or Hille or at the very least Petrie. Koschitzke not a bad forward but as a number one ruck option it's not enough points. Your forward line is ace. However, Lance Franklin is going into a football season for the very first time without a full preseason. Limited preparation and a relatively tough early draw for the Hawks means that I reckon his value will drop in the first month of the season. Riewoldt is injured also so the same goes for him.

I'd do something like this..

Downgrade an expense midfield and upgrade Kossy. If you want him that bad, chuck him up forward.
Downgrade two expensive fowards and put the cash in the backline. Dawson and Hurn are bad news, I know.

or

Say, what the bloody hell would you know? Where's your friggin side smarta55? ;)

Cheers,

Thanks for the advice REB i will definatley take it on board and am now currently looking at making some changes. The main reason for Hurn was sentimental as a mate of mine i can't leave him out of the side (or can i).

Yep. He might be a good bloke and he can play but he's not much chop when it comes to earning points for your team. BTW, I just ignored my own advice and chucked Ablett in my team LOL. Cat bias? NEVER. ;)

Jumped in this one "The Dukes" are in should be good.

What are everyones thoughts about picking their sides Ive gone with a new strategy this year picked mostly premium players and mixed in with 1 max 2 rookies on my field in a postion so hopefully the increase and value and i look to upgrade come mid to late season so my side is at its strongest come the end of the year. Well at least thats how the plan hopefully goes.

That's exactly what I did Tight_Lines.
Big names, mixed with some rookies.

But I did that last year as well and finished 3rd bottom or something :(

Haha yeah from what Ive gathered if you pick the right rookies your on a winner if not you'll sink so im keeping a good eye on the NAB cup. Last year picking bad rookies cost big time i just didnt get the profit cash from them no Palmer was a killer to. Beams, Rich, Hill, Swift, Ziebell, Cheney are looking ok to name a few haha

Also have to factor in the teams these rookies play for and how much game time they might potentially receive .. Ie, rookeis at the Hawks and Cats are less likely to get as much gametime as those at other clubs without as many successful senior players.

Give ya a sneak peek into the WET DREAM TEAM 09 team, even though ive changed it more than 10 times since opening up. Starting to take shape now.

BACKS - Goddard, C Cornes, Drummond, Scarlett, R Houlihan, S Gilbert, S Hill, Petrenko and Presticombover
MID - Ablett, Swan, Mitchell, Gibbs, Schammer, Ziebel, Robinson, Djerrkura
RUCKS - Hille, K Tippet, Jacobs, Pyke
BACKS - Pavlich, Richardson, Brown, Fevola, Roughead, Skipworth, Hentschel, Walker, W Thompson

Not sure about Ruck reserves or Djerrkura if they will get a run.

Anyone know any cheap ruckman that look like getting a run??

The Richmond ruckman looks likely to.

I don't know if tippet is a regular starter this year with Petrenko and Hentschel back.

Prestigiacomo is not worth the bit of green he stands on, rarely gets over 10 touches.
