Good effort by Hewitt, just beaten by the better player on the day. Lets get behind the Gooch to carry the Aussie hopes

Back to the Tennis

Safin cruised through this morning and won in straight sets in what looks to be his last Aussie Open.

Young Aussie Klein is currently down a set and a break to the 15th seed.

Nalbandian is OUT, huge shock there. I had him as one of my favourites to push for the final and his Medibank win almost made me put some cash down.

Does anyone know where we can get a live feed of the Tomic match? Sick of the crappy delays tbh.

8 years ago when she was only a girl of 17 years of age, the Australian public "turned" on Jelena Dokic because of comments made by her controlling father. She was even jeered the last time she was on centre court at the Oz Open. I couldn't understand it then and I still cant understand it now! But time is a great healer and her reception tonight by the fans was fantastic!

Tonight I was so pumped and involved in her match that I teared up when she won! Well done Jelena, and I hope you can have the succesful career you were destined to have!

Getting soft in my old age! :D

We've only just had the first game of the Tomic match here but imo it's already clear the kid has a seriously bright future. Courier has been talking about how concerned he was that Tomic would get belted on the big stage and it would hurt his mindset going forward; the kid stood up in that opening game under such pressure which is an excellent sign. I was unsure what to expect given he's had some fadeouts at junior level but I guess kids will be kids and we should expect that sort of inconsistency until things settle. Not sure how he'll hold up as the set and indeed the match wears own but he's already shown more than enough in my opinion for us to just about lock him in as a top 50 player (injury permitting etc etc).
