i think cyclops is right willunga are great but i think the emus are much better and when they played last year emus had i think 8 u18s i think playing. would be good to see it as an official trial match for better preperation as it means nothing when youve trained for 5 weeks and play half a side each. i think cove willunga will be a good game but think cove will be young and fit and run all day

sources tell me this game is gonna happen! will be an interesting clash but as has been previously mentioned you cant take much out of trial matches when both sides are not at 100% and are using the match to trial new players/gameplans etc. maybe if it was played at a different time with more incentive to the competing clubs then we'd see a better contest! just a thought...

Never going to happen, the SANFL struggles for major sponsors, who is going to put up the cash to play an exhibition game mid year between two clubs who will just use it as an ego booster anyway. For the good of the local game the money would be better spent on the struggling clubs that cant win a game......

The game has a sponsor - the Southern Messenger. Last year they donated prizes and a perpetual trophy. And as for how serious the game is - it all depends on which club wants it more.

A positive step for us playing this game. For the past 6 seasons we have had basically the same trial games. Its great for knowing where you're at in regards to leading teams in different comps (Morphies, Porties and Uraidla) but with the game against Cove it gives our pre season a fresh feel. A new challenge and hopefully the boys are as keen to play well in this game as we were in the same game against Morphies last year.

From what i saw of cove this year they are a bit smaller and rely on a running game which is good and Ando is a good coach.

Already looking forward to footy season, not enough happens over the summer months!

A little dramatic dont you think Bruce. Our 5 flags mean plenty, fill me in on how many you have! They also mean a LOT more than a cup played in the pre season. We all know the game is important, its a great advertisement for the game and the leagues. The 2 premiers from the previous season having a hit out the following year is great but to think a game in March is anywhere near as important as a premiership is a little off the mark.

Let me know how you go in the Messenger cup anyway Bruce.....ur playing in it right?

So if Strath had won this year, and then they lost to Cove would that mean there premiership would be worth as you say... 'jack sh*t'? I think not.

mate you dont have to like willunga but you do have to respect them and how successful they have been over the past 5 years, to say their 5 flags is worth jack shit unless they are competitive( they will be so it doesnt matter) is ridiculous. sounds like sour grapes to me mate
who ever thought of the saying winning isn't everything, probably lost!!

i didnt mean any disrepect to willunga but i have heard willunga people say they are the best country footy side going around because of the five flags. all i meant was the five gsfl flags doesnt make em the best if cove belt em.
