Or even the captain and the coach??

It's funny you bring this up as they discussed it last night on the footy show. You would only be going on what you have seen over 2 games, so does it really give you a fair opinion and would some people be brainwashed by all the talk about other players in the media and at the pub?
Probably just a simple top 5 players (5,4,3,2,1 votes per game) named from the opposition coach maybe?

I would even go as far as canning the umpires votes all together. They appear to struggle to know the rules at most. Give the votes to the coaches from each side - a 3,2,1 for each oppostion team. Would accumulate a lot of votes i know but it could work.

Jelom - I will see you at the Grosvenor for a beer at 5ish. Meet you by the TAB. I think you owe me for all the rides home during the season!!

Instead of all this Waffle about the best way to go about deciding who is the best INDIVIDUAL player in a TEAM sport How about all u Knowledgable Football Gurus out there put forward some ideas that clubs may be able to adopt to formulate some plan of action in coming years to put a STOP to Willungas' Dominance in 'A' grade. Just imagine how much more interesting it would be if the 'A' grade comp was like the Senior Colts this year with 6 -7 Genuine Premiership chances instead of the usual 1 or 2 in 'A's.

May i suggest that a quick fix to even the comp up would be to kick out all the clubs with Red and White as their colours.

The KIFL has a award where votes are given by the opposing clubs president each week. Interesting to note that the while this award and the mail medal don't always produce the same winner, the top 5 is always very similar.

I have to say that by mentioning this (Players MVP) I am in no way saying that Randall doesn't deserve the medal and I am sure that no one else is doubting that he is not a deserved winner but it is clear that we the players see things a lot differently from game to game. I didnt watch the footy show, but a players award will put more pressure on umpires to take care when voting. If you are getting paid to umpire country footy then you have to deliver the full package. That includes: Umpiring, voting and attending the tribunal. By the way how does a 42 inch LCD TV and a $1500 travel voucher sound as a players MVP Prize?

Hopefully in the upcoming years the points system should even up the comp. I know it it seems like a crappy system but i think it will work better than the salary cap. Also the GSFL executive may need to revise the allocation of points for it to work.

Sounds like an awesome prize LF.

I think the points system has shown its merit even at such an early stage. Apart from Willunga, the comp was the most even it has been for years. Very rarely this year were there predicatable results. Just take the 2 strugglers from last year (Saints & Yank). Yank won more games this year than they have for the past 5 and in the process beat Langhorne Creek. The Saints although the position on the ladder doesn't show were competetitive against teams like Bays (14 point loss in Rnd 2) and Compass (8 point loss in Rnd 8 ) who are finals contenders. I have no stats but the amount of 1st year A graders and colts playing senior footy was also at an all time high which is great for the longetvity of the comp. 5-10 years ago thses kids would have played B's beacuse 'the recruits' would have filled A Grade spots.

Jelom plays for the Bays?

Apologies Jackpot Jim for debating an interesting topic on this forum. We should've known better.
Good idea LF and by the looks of things the PA committee is set in concrete. A PA MVP would certaintly be held in high regard.

As for the dominance of the Willunga football club. Well these things happen in country footy. Success breeds success. Victor Harbor clearly had it going in the 90's.

Difference is VH bought $uce$$ and Willunga has bred it. Look how long VH have taken to get back on their feet since those days and please no one argue with that concept beacuse I am spot on.
