I went to a bad taste party where a pom came as Hitler but noone battered an eyelid as a chick came as a used tampon which stole the show.
Now THATs bad taste.
Great costume though, everytime I see her at work I still picture the string coming out of her head.

What about Saddam?
I reckon you could get away with dressing as Saddam and his atrocities were committed in the past 30 years.
I think it's ridiculous and unless you had some sort of direct involvement with Hitler's tyranny, then you shouldn't get upset.

We only have to go back 25-30 years in one of our near neighbours "Democratic Kampuchea" now known as Cambodia where PolPot and his communist henchmen killed about 30% of the population. I currently have a student whose grandparents fled China in the 1950s only to be murdered by PolPot in Cambodia in the 1970s. Isn't socialism grand

Rwanda was a shade over 10 years ago Mick...

I should add that it won't have the same level of horror about it/we won't be constantly reminded about the atrocities, as there were no Jewish casualties....

What would REALLY be bad taste would be if someone dressed up as
Adolf Hitler while they were playing for U.K. Premier League Club
Tottenham Hotspur
if you know what I mean!

A Central Coast Mariner player, a German no less, dressed up as Hitler for his team's Mad Monday following their GF loss on Sunday.

Various groups have rushed to criticise him for this act.

I'm curious to know as to why?

People dress up as Attilla the Hun or sundry Roman Caesers, all had murderous reigns.

In our own country people are happy to dress Ned Kelly, a murderous bushranger, without being condemned, while Aboriginal communities don't rush to criticise celebrities dressing up as Captain Cook.

Why is Hitler so different? Is it too soon - will dressing up as Hitler for fancy dress balls be different in some future age? When does it become appropriate?

This is not to make light of the damage caused to the Jewish community by Hitler's Final Solution, but more to question societal views.

I think your last line answers your question DW

A final-40 finalist in the Archibald prize is a self portrait of the artist dressed in a Nazi uniform.

Dont stop at Rwanda Punk - you can include much of Africa. Zimbabwe is a disgrace.
Yugoslavia - ethnic cleansing there aplenty as well before it broke up.

Hitler wasn't just about the 6 million Jewish deaths. As I posted previously my family are NOT Jewish, yet didn't stop the Nazi's from going berko on their village/family & friends....

88,900 non Jews died in WW2 in the Netherlands (if I can recall correctly 6 from my family) and a further 106,000 Jews also.

As I said also previously, I wouldn't be/am not offended, but would feel for my Oma/Opa who would be...

I'm sure this soccer player in question will regret his actions. Theres been an uproar over in Germany, and his parents who reside there have received death threats. His father may possibly lose his job over this too.

I'm talking about the soccer player, Andre Gumprecht, who dressed up as Hitler after the soccer final between the Mariners and Newcastle 1 week ago. Its on page 63 of today's Sunday Mail.
