Ok Monday 3rd March .
Didn't have much time to Fish this morning had to go to an appointment. But I did manage to spend an 1 1/2 hours wading .When I arrived at the lake it was a beautiful calm morning hardly a breath of air.
Waded in after my third cast the circles appeared I am assuming the bait fish were back .And I cast out over them and stripped my fly back towards me .Assuming I had stripped my fly past the fish I lifted my rod and line up and did the perfect TROUT STRIKE
Without knowing I had a perfect 23 cm Salmon Trout on my fly.Once me and the fish worked out what was going on a great fight got my heart started and the fish on the shore.
Image
After this fish the wind sprung up and I moved to the other side of the lake but the wind was no better.I did lose 6 small Bream and I had another of those "CRAB" like bites on this side.
So that was my morning a perfect way to start my day and the ST'S are getting bigger.
Cheers
Tightlines until next time

  I didn't notice that
Could be that when I got it ashore it spat the fly .
I had trouble returning it back to the water it kept swimming back on land like one of those beached whales, I had to pick up 3 more times and put it further out .

I would have thought the one above would have been more worried I could only snap it from one side .For those eating dinner I wont say where the hook came out of . :(

I hope you're joking about salmon trout being a baby salmon Micky. Where are you going on holidays mate? I want to see you holding up something big like a jewie or a shark so we can see your face rather than just a hand or your fishing reel.

I'll stand corrected but I think it's just fly fishing for salmon thats illegal on Sundays...no idea why though probably a religious thing, most are up here...doubt I could afford to try much fishing up here even if I wanted to...my local is the mighty River Spey. My father would enjoy this thread...when he's not out fishing he's in his shed tying flies

No I'm not joking Andy read the fish sa page I posted above . Cant go away I am afraid was going to NSW for a family wedding but me going has fallen through. So staying home and fly fishing most days .
Its a holiday not having to walk lift carry stuff for 8 hrs a day on a hard concrete floor. Oh and when I'm not at work I can think something I am not allowed to do at work .Hey they think I can not use a computer either until I told the boss in a pissed off voice what I own pc wise.
Not sure how I can do my face and a fish at the same time  Mullie would be nice a few schoolies around at present .
Had a couple of strange bites last two days at the lake perhaps a schoolie is on the cards .Sharks no thanks .

cheers

Haha...I think other sports and clubs would go straight out the window if you two got talking fish

:prayer: Definite art to the fly tying...he tried to teach me many years ago...it was a nightmare of fur, feather and varnish  but then my attempts at fishing weren't much better...I'm resigned to the fact that my only useful purpose in the fishing world is consuming the catch (preferably cooked) :D

Then the wind came back and I was losing tiny Bream
All I can say with these Salmon trout they don't really stay in the one spot .But I get excited when I see the circles in the water or when you watch them jump chasing baitfish through the air .
Late last winter before I started WADING(burr waders coming soon)I had full grown Salmon jumping out of the water a full metre in the air landing on top of my Bass Gurgler Surface fly (made for Aussie Bass and Bream). And when I hooked onto a couple my heart was a pounding too bad they spat the fly
What I am trying at present is a fly made with a green fake fur tail tied like a normal fly .then I do the same to one end of a rubber band wind it onto the hook super glue it (works better than fly tying thread). And in this model I am super gluing diementie (fake diamond eyes) .Then I paint the rubber with bright green nail polish and the clear nail polish .
By chance when the eyes glint in the sun they appear to resemble the scales on the baitfish the larger fish are feeding on .
this is a picture of model one with out the diamond eyes bream still took it.
Image
this where I got the idea from the yanks tie a fly that looks like a gent
http://www.flyfishohio.com/Irony_fly.htm
Of course mine are supposed to be bait fish imitations not gents.

PS
Jas I would have trouble with trout flies I think I have 10 thumbs.

Mate, in one skiing weekend about a month ago we caught about 8 callop, a couple of silver perch, a catfish, 3 redfin and only three carp between booky cliffs and katarapko(I think thats what they were called). Fair bit different to what I expected.

Micky, I think you need to at least make a trip to Victor and try and catch something big. Apparently a few bronzies floating around the mouth at the moment. Unfortunately the nearest rod that could catch a shark which I have access to is in Streaky. Don't people get buns as prizes on here? If you catch a bronzie or jewie fly fishing I reckon you should get a whole box of them!

Our football trainer caught a boat load of fish including a few snapper a couple of weeks ago at Wirrina, so I'm in the process of convincing my mate to take his boat down there this weekend.

Andy I am land based so no boat for me.
You should walk around the lake and the see the size of fish in there you would not believe your eyes. And they get bigger when the dragon boats chase them in shore.
And I have been told I have a popper that Sharks like its just Mick don't like sharks

Keep watching this post they will get bigger !!!
And I don't need a prize just the fish and a picture thats all I need

I have fished in the Kat. We put in at the boat ramp there on the weekend and went up river between New Residence and Gerard. Usually good fishing there.

I currently have a photo of a 60 cm caught between Lyrup and Renmark recently, it's not mine.
