Yup, both teams underestimated the Dogs, and as a direct result, one will now have their season ended earlier than they could have possibly conceived.

Don’t feel special we underestimated North to the same extent, the week before!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I expect a much better performance next week from yesterday’s pathetic 2nd half. Bays have all the momentum going into next Sunday.

I don’t think either team underestimated Centrals.

How?

Apparently just like South and the Eagles underestimated the Bays

Seriously, enjoy your win, well done, but it’s only week 1 of a 4 week finals series, so plenty of time to do greater things or bomb out without a whimper.

Best of luck.

Flag favourites to lose 2 in a row, after 13 wins straight?
Out in straight sets?
I think so!

Dunno about that.

I initially thought that this year would be 1978 again with the same song but different colours. It still could be, but maybe now with a 1976 twist, when Sturt dropped the qualifying against the Bays, then won the flag from the 1st-semi when Port were red hot faves.

Faarked if I know.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

To go into a finals series as;
- flag favourites
- having won 13 on the trot
- playing an opponent you’ve won 22 of the last 24 against
- leading comfortably by 5 goals at the 10 min mark of the 3rd qtr
… yet lose and now find yourself in a sudden death final against a team who may be finding their best form at the right time…
Straight sets would be nothing short of a major, major choke.

or...... a team entering a Semi Final

Having won 13 of their last 14.

But most recently lost to a side who also defeated the 'team who may be finding their form at the right time' 2 weeks ago? (who were also leading said team 5 goals to nil 7 minutes into the 3rd qtr).

Depends which lens you want to view it through eh?

The Eagles got belted by Norwood in the 2011 Qualifying and I just had a strange feeling we'd turn it around after that, like it steeled the group not to waste any more chances or be bullied by anyone.
Mind you, we were playing South the next week, who, in relative terms, was an easier game, and not as much of a threat to the flag as the Bays should be.

Glenelg very backable at that price.
