Yeah, it's hard to believe this is the first bloke who has done it, but first time I'd heard about it.

Hard to believe he got the sentence he got when he pleaded guilty to only five counts and you see many of the other bullsh!t sentences which are handed down for far worse crimes.

I try not to use the self service as I would rather keep someone employed
I can't wait for someone to pull me up wanting to check my bag if I do

I generally avoid self serve and most supermarkets now have limited staff doing the full checkouts, I like going through 12 items or less with 20+ items

There might not be 6 people standing at checkouts but every Sunday morning at Coles St Clair there's about 8 of them picking for click and collect orders.

I work in a different retail space and we have autonomy to, on occasions, give something away.

If I have to serve myself at supermarkets then if I am spending $100, I should be able to chuck in a free Cherry Ripe

Woolworths at Brighton all but force you to self serve. We do a fortnightly shop on Sunday morning (pretty busy time) When they first opened up they had 6,7 up to 8 checkouts serving you. Now they’ll have 2. I self served $450 worth of groceries not that long ago. I’m not standing in line behind 3 people with full trolleys.

Could've gone to the 12 items or less checkout.

Self service is great until you can’t scan something or you get a bagging error for no reason. Gotta stand pressing the bloody service button until someone comes to help.

Based on what data?

or is it because people cant be arsed standing with limited checkouts open you have to use click and collect or risk self service?

In other words limit access to one system of work to make another more attractive?

Oh we've had a 200% increase in click and collect because previously it only accounted for 2% of our sales and now its accounts for 6%

A bit like the banking industry and tellers...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Which is a self-fulfilling cycle

I used to work in a Supermarket with 16 checkouts but now more than half that area is taken up with self-service in the middle of the exit area, and 6 manned checkouts, of which there are usually only 2-3 in operation, are pushed right to the dead end of the store, away from the entrance and more heavily trafficked areas.
