there's plenty of 6'1 back flankers at every club, hence my confusion in him being possibly redrafted

If AFL clubs can’t manage their lists for the full year with the multitude of drafts they have available to them then they are beyond help.
All non-AFL clubs are generally supportive of their players aspiring to AFL level, but to uproot players mid-season on a short term contract with all the cards with the AFL club and seemingly all the risk with the drafted player is ludicrous..
Can’t blame players for seeking out the opportunity, but ask Brett Turner and the like how it faarked them up.
All non-AFL clubs have this stupid risk of losing their best players mid-season with no recourse … it’s beyond dumb.
To top off the stupidity, Port or the Crows can effectively recruit the best players from SANFL clubs and have them playing against their clubs for the remainder of the season … and they have done it before.
There are more than enough drafts now, time to kill this monster. If AFL clubs can’t cope with their lists for a full season, then do it properly and increase their lists by one so that everyone knows where they’re at before a season starts, but of course that would be more expensive and incur an actual commitment to those players drafted in that last spot.

Agreed, minimum contract term of 18 months and minimum contract value of "x" dollars (a reasonable amount), to make their drafting decision cost something.
