They couldn't even be bothered sending someone out to the SFL vs GSFL games last year on the long weekend, seem to assume this crop of U18s will sustain them for the next 20 years or so

As you well know the biggest brown paper bag ever used was by Glenelg to get Partington.

Even I liked that one.

On a more sombre note.

Former Glenelg footballer Rowan Andrews (via the Crows mini draft, 2004 and 2005) has died in Victoria at the age of 38.

Just the two trials for a number of clubs? Only a matter of time before they snuck byes in to the trial schedule as well I guess!
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

Thanks, mate! It's been an honor to serve Sturt and it's players over 44 years. Pleasingly, it's shone a focus on sports trainers in State League and community based sporting clubs. It's a tough gig at times, where often you're the primary caregiver for injured players. Hopefully go at least 6 seasons to go before I retire...

The SANFL congratulates the outstanding South Australian volunteers in football who have today been awarded Australia Day Honours.

Sturt Football Club’s Nick Swingler was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his Services to Australian Rules Football, having been head trainer and medical co-ordinator for the Double Blues for more than four decades.

Nick works tirelessly with the Club’s medical team to get players ready for match day, with many players past and present owing their playing careers to his medical care. This will be Nick’s 45th year involved with the Club.

Joining Nick in receiving OAM Honours for Service to the Community, including Australian football, are Diane Ranck and Craig Scott.

Diane is a former Board member and volunteer with South Adelaide Football Club and was instrumental in establishing the Club’s now longstanding partnership with Flinders University.

Craig’s significant contribution to community football saw him named as South Australia’s Australia Day Citizen of the Year in 2021. A Past President and Life Member of Goodwood Saints Football Club, he was integral in the Club establishing its successful female football program, as well as developing its Inclusive team for players with intellectual disability.

The SANFL also congratulates South Australian Bruce Carter who has been awarded an Officer of the Order (AO) for his outstanding service to the business community and charity, but also for his contribution to community football as a field umpire for the Adelaide Footy League for more than 20 years.

Port Adelaide Football Club President David Koch also has been fittingly recognised as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his Service to Media, including for his service to the Club since 2012.

We also congratulate and acknowledge all other volunteers in football across the State who have received awards for making a significant impact in their local communities.

2024 Australia Day Honours with a contribution to Australian Football in SA:

AO

Bruce Carter – Service to business, charity and the community, including 20-plus years as an Adelaide Football League field umpire.

AM

David Koch – Service to Media, with his career including service as President of Port Adelaide FC since 2012.

OAM

Nick Swingler – Service to Australian Rules Football, including 40+ years as Head Trainer/Medical Coordinator at Sturt FC.

Diane Ranck – Service to the Community, including as a volunteer with South Adelaide FC.

Craig Scott – Service to the Community, including as a Life Member and Past President of Goodwood Saints FC.

Would love to see an FA Cup style tournament for the pre-season made up of all the teams that play in the SANFL/WAFL/VFL. Add the Tassie premiers to make it 42. Begin after the BBL taking it through to the AFL season.

Round 1 - The bottom 19 VFL teams plus TSL premiers play a knockout to reduce to 10 teams.

Round 2 - Round 1 winners join VFL Grand Finalists plus all teams from the SANFL and WAFL, to make it 32 teams, to begin in Round 2.

Round 3 - Round of 16

Quarter Finals

Semi Finals

Grand Final

Get some exposure prior to the season proper. Sign up some members etc.

It's AGM season, so the financial reports will be released so we know how clubs are going profit / loss wise.

Sturt had their AGM last night and reported a 10th year in a row of profit, this year it was $ 828,378-00 profit with $ 300,000-00 of that being final Football Park land distribution.

Club has nearly $ 2,000,000-00 in the bank and $ 1,200,000-00 in an Investment Fund.

A pretty good turnaround by the clubs management and board from there perilous position not that long ago.

That's brilliant. I really hope the other clubs are in a similar position, if not now, then very soon, so we can keep the traditional competition and rivalry afloat.

West Adelaide are in real strife and not just on field…

For 2023, a loss of $342,000 which follows a loss of $164,000 in 2022.

I’m not sure how they turn it around….

i was told they will sell their clubrooms to the Council, and relocate their gaming machines to a more prominent site. They would be the big structural changes coming up. I guess it depends if the Council ask the club to use the proceeds of the sale to help fund the mooted grandstand upgrade..
