Cost of Living

Postby Footy Chick » Thu Nov 23, 2023 6:56 pm

I just opened the quarterly electricity bill - $455 for a one person household.

I nearly vomited.

After the next interest rate rise, 50% of my pay will be going towards my mortgage.

I can't even imagine how those of you with kids are managing..

So glad I installed solar panels nearly 12 years ago. Thanks to everyone for paying my State Govt FIT of 44c/kWh over the years.

Agree though, cost of living is through the roof.

Something prompted me tonight to go and look at my meter reading, after getting that ridiculous bill.
19
The bill was an actual reading and bill showed end read of 18972 as at 30/11

checked it tonight and reading says 18767.

How do you **** up an ACTUAL reading so badly. I'd semi understand the error if it were an estimated bill

reading submitted and "feedback" sent. :?

Unfortunately it’s not uncommon, so good practice to independently check, either by reading yourself, or at worst, check that the meter reads from the last few bills align.

I get my bills monthly and I have solar.

Went from averaging $80 to $120 and sometimes a credit, haven't had a credit for about 18 months and two months ago I copped a $450 bill for the month. I get that 2 out 3 bills are estimated but how does it escalate that much? It makes me appreciate more when my son and his girlfriend stay at her house, I can put up with empty house and only having to clean up after myself.

Electricity rates have gone up more than any other service I can think of.
It’s ridiculous and I have solar as well.

For the first time I can remember, a house in my street sold for over a million about a month ago to a Chinese couple. A couple of western families tried but just got out muscled by this Chinese couple.
For that price, and type of house (family home), I expected them to move in. Nope, yesterday they had an open inspection to rent it.

12 months ago, the house 5 doors down from this one sold for near 850k, and the exact same thing happened in the same manner.

Chalmers has come out with increased taxes on foreign investment in property, but then said it only makes up 1% of all property sales. Seems like a low number...

So you have a sample of 2, and have no way of knowing whether they’re Australian citizens or not.

I have a sample of two from two sales in my street, sorry I didn't do a phd paper on it for all other streets and suburbs...
if you think foreign investment in Australian residential properties is not a problem at the moment, that's on you. I think it's an issue personally.

Nothing’s on me, but you are entitled to your opinion, as am I.

I look ‘ethnic’ but I’m Australian, born and bred. That’s all my point was. ;;)

They have so much money have seen a number of properties around us sell for well over a million only to be bulldozed and 3 or 4 townhouses then built on them and either sold or rented out.

we are holding form right now, had quite a few offers but have declined them as have the neighbours for theirs
