Not sure the crack at the league was justified, while the game looked like allot of fun, it’s still a game an official game of footy, not sure crowd invasions at every goal are something the league would be to impressed with.

Loosen up, a great promotion by these Tic Toc lads "Marmalade" who also play for the Lockleys FC. Brought approx 2-3,000 people out to watch a game of C7 footy on a Friday night & 23,000 watching online. Arranged for people like Mark Cosgrove & others to play & even had Mitch Robinson coaching.
So many kids there. You'd like to think that will hopefully translate to future young players wanting to play for a Club like Lockleys.
Well done to the PAOC lads for being such great sports & taking this in the spirit it was intended. Btw it wasn't every goal!

the result was listed earlier today and has now been updated to a forfeit by Lockley. Oh well, Lockleys were never going to win anyway. Hopefully they made plenty over the bar and on food.

People should be proud of the organising that went into it. Let's hope the reason for the forfeit is not people running on the ground for goals, otherwise, Para Hills might be forfeting in a week's time when Weetra kicks his 100!

From my understanding talking to several sources, the game was a forfeit prior to the first bounce as the league (one person in particular) was dead against it and did everything in their power to not support the event. Pretty funny really considering they could have made an absolute bomb for their sponsors but it is what it is. There was a lot go on behind the scenes I’ve been told. Unsure the exact reason why it was a forfeit prior (doesn’t really matter anyway as the result wouldn’t have changed), but it was either based on the jumper design or some of the paperwork side of things.

At the end of the day, massive effort the by the Marmalade lads to put this on and get a few thousand people to a D Grade game of footy, more than the majority of SANFL games these days. Hopefully it happens again next yr and with more time to plan it would be even bigger. Credit to those boys & the Locks Footy Club to go along with the event as I’m sure they would have had a very successful financial night.

Also credit to PAC for playing in the game even though they didn’t have to after having the forfeit win announced a few weeks ago. From what I’ve been told they loved the experience and they deserve plenty of plaudits for going along with the event

Relegation looks set in stone now with Kenilworth responding well to Mitcham accurate and fast start.

Some massive games the last 4 weeks to settle 4th and 5th. Pooraka and CBC are clear favourites and the rest come finals I suspect will make up the numbers.

Lockleys forfeited because they wanted to play unregistered and ineligible players.

The league seriously has cracked down on game day permits this year and allowing them for a one off game opens a huge can of worms

They were never not cracking down on game day permits. The previous issue with some falling through the cracks plus the successful WOS challenge last season was the auto approve setting that the league had in place for transfers and permits. Which is fair enough with the amount of transfers and permits (particularly with the SANFL set up these days) that go through the ADFL. But just because computer says YES doesn’t mean the rules say YES. They now remove auto approve once the season is a few rounds old. Without knowing the full story with the Lockleys lineup on Friday night but one suspects some blokes played as part of the whole promotion that needed to be cleared (can’t do after 30 June) or weren’t bothering to register for a single game. Not sure how this promotes the league though. I believe these Marmalade blokes have moved to Melbourne and Lockleys have just been a convenience on their pathway of self promotion and media opportunities. Good luck to them but I’m sure the league has far more important things on their plate as we approach finals.

DTH - I am assuming then these lads would of been an inconvenience for a Div 1 club and the club is financial sound for seasons to come.

I think it is a good promotion for the league as it will bring some blokes out of retirement because they can see the fun in the lower grades. might even stop the thursday night / friday morning scramble to fill a 3rd/4th team, therefore minimising the potential to forfeit.

Lads in the lower grades put more $$$ into clubs through the purchase of beverages and food after playing in the early games.
Some clubs use this revenue to stump up their higher-grade player payments.

People can shitcan it all they want, but that's the most amount of free media coverage the Adelaide Footy League has ever received aside from players or teams receiving expulsion from the league.

Checkers has been playing for years at at Lockleys, so to say that Lockleys has been a convenience is an incorrect comment. Credit where credits due, these guys have created something out of nothing and brought some laughs and joy to the next generation of amateur footballers for the entire year. To hear that they were told that they are "an unwelcome distraction to the Adelaide Footy League" is a real shit take too

All for it, hopefully onto bigger and better things for the guys

The only reason why anyone would be “shitcanning” it is because of their crack at the league and the ongoing posts on here. There are some very general statements being posted on why the league “may have” not supported it, however then went go to post such intimate knowledge of knowing a certain person was dead against it at league HQ. Post all the actual facts on why it wasn’t supported and then you may get a balanced opinion. FWIW good on the blokes, however I’m certain there is more to the reason why it wasn’t supported than what is being posted.

I love what the lads are doing but the league was never going to support it once the club forfeited to get around the player registration rules in place for the league.

The best bit I heard from Checkers was that he hopes this encourages guys that are told they are not good enough to still have a crack at lower grades of footy and enjoy the game. Keeping them involved can only be a positive for the league and their clubs, so many club volunteers weren't great footballers but played kept their connection the their clubs via B/C grade footy.

I wonder if some of this is an inter-generational misunderstanding and (fair) suspicion of TikTok, influencers and the like.

Can understand why they’d give you the occasional irrits but it seems hard to extrapolate it past them being a force for good

Definitely a force for good just hard to fit into the scope of a major football comp when you have player transfer rules/regulations regarding crowds, security /sponsorship deals etc etc in place.

Wasn’t there, however watched the replay of our game. Pretty happy with the way our blokes played the pastie yesterday. It’s not the ground it once was, however it’s still a very hard place to play.

Finals have already started realistically, Hectorville the last few weeks has landed some major blows since losing to Kenilworth. Next weeks match up between Kenilworth and Plympton has some very big stakes on hand…

2 big games tomorrow, if Lockleys can beat Kenilworth and Plympton can beat Hectorville the final 5 will be done and dusted. All of them have a few out so it will be interesting to see the final results.

Final 5 done and dusted. Round 18 is for shits and giggles for the bottom 5. The top 5 could change order depending on results.

My overview

1 Pooraka - they have been the best team all year. Big scoring machines. With a lot of changes to their line up in recent weeks they have still been able to get over the line.
Odds on favourites to be in Div 3 next year.

2-CBC - the big factor for them is their lack of injuries, their depth is woeful so well done to Brett Simpson for keeping them in check.

3- Lockleys- what a season they have had coming from a losing GF in Div 5 last year. Their best is potent, their depth throughout the club is amazing
and if they get home finals it would suit them. Regardless they would consider 2023 to be a massive tick.

4- Plympton- their best is good, their worst is average. They have had an average year for me but who knows, finals are a different beast and you wouldn’t want to be playing them at home with a full list.

5 - Hectorville- to be fair I’m really surprised at where they sit on the ladder. The one thing I’ve witnessed watching them is they are very well coached, they play for each other and love playing at home. Regardless of what happens in finals they’ve had a great year consolidating a spot in Div 4.

The rest, Kenilworth, have done well, but need depth badly

Walkerville, would be very disappointed with their year, Proud doesn’t play they lose.

Morphettville Park, well the wheels have fallen off there. Question, how can your best Div 1 recruit play B,s in round 17 and kick 8 but your A grade lose by 82 points. They will review 2023 big time.

Mitcham- Div 5 beckons in 2024. Consistently and depth is an issue for them. Good bunch of lads but the fact is their last premiership was in Div 5 in 1996. Maybe next year they find their true level.

Portland - what a basket case they’ve been the last few years. Sad really because they’ve played Div 1 footy. It’s hard to see a way forward for them and a lot of their current players are ageing or injury prone. No C’s, a poor B’s and little juniors old enough to come through. I wish them well in 2024.
