Down the Hill wrote:But worth runs and wickets with his work in the gully. Time for Marnus to open beyond Warner. We did it successfully with Langer, Watson, Katich & Ussie because the opener cupboard was bare at shield level. Marnus may be coming to the wicket early but he's faced 157, 80, 84 & 102 balls in his last 4 digs so the new ball isn't really the issue. And he's regularly faced that many balls in the 21 innings since his last 100. Green still struggling with the tempo he needs to bat at test level. But he's not alone with that issue coming in at 5/6. S.Waugh and Head also took some time to work out what works best for them. Green has made big runs batting at 4 for WA since moving up the order and seems to have the technique. Regardless of what we do in the next 2 tests we have a fairly soft test summer coming up and a chance to re-work the batting order. My top 7 would be.

Ussie
Marnus
Green
Smith
Head
Marsh (until injured) / Hardie
Carey

And 2 of Green/Marsh/Hardie will help extend the careers of the 3 main quicks.

Agree, the next Summer gives us a chance to get our top order right ready for the 25-26 Ashes.

Next summer is not for a blokes farewell tour.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

In the 3rd test when Stokes made 80 in the first dig , he was dropped twice of Murphys bowling, before Todd got his wicket
Murphy finished with 1/36 off 7 overs and probably bowled about 30 balls at Stokes ?
So he unofficially got Stokes out 3 times in about 5 overs?

Agree about dropping Murphy, because it locks this bowling line-up for the last Test too and would be a huge ask of the lad for him to come into that situation after being bowled the way he was last Test.

Not real convinced about our bowling attack, Starc offers variety but two bowlers around the same, fast but not express speed, and three fast-mediums all right-handed.

Weathrs looking ok for first 2 days fine and 20C today only 10% chance of rain

Tomorrow about the same

Forecast to go a little pear shaped after that then terrible Sat/Sun with 100% of rain
You cant change your past but you can sure hell shape you future

So what if we loose this test, Warner fails in both innings (again). What do we do at the Oval keep Warner, or bring in another opening bat with the Ashes on the line?

Good question

He’ll probably play but we lose that he should be metaphorically dropped North Korean Execution style….

Sadly the bloke should have been "moved on" 2 seasons ago. Particularly if Pukovski was able to stop head butting cricket balls.

Essentially time put into our next opening bat, whoever that may be, so we are not in a situation of losing both Warner & Khawaja in the same summer.

Lack of a plan here big time.

Is this the role of selecting an Australian team? I tend to think its the only team in Australian cricket where forward planning should not be taken into account. We pick our best XI for each Test. If theyre all 36 so be it.

Bookies think it will be rain affected
4-50 was bet this week now into 2-80 for the DRAW

Topsport has
EG 2-82
DR 2-80
AU 2-60

I was an advocate of playing Murphy
However, maybe the selectors got it right
With the weather and a very deep batting order, AU should only need to lose 19 wickets or less to retain the ashes
They dont have to declare in any innings- surely
I hope the Australian the batsman play naturally and not BoycottBall
The English have to play Bazball and make the running

When the Aussies bowl hopefully they dont over persist with JardineBall

TIP
Dunno- all 3 results possible
If forced to have a tip, DRAW

I get what you are saying, but an eye to the future every now and then wouldn’t hurt.

As others have said, no tour game makes it hard for the likes of Harris or Renshaw to stake a claim to a spot.

FFS Warner edges Broad to second slip.

How about a score Marnus.

FFS Smith take your medication.

It's only a trap Travis if you fall into it.

Put the reverse sweep away Carey.

Marsh has pulled a hammy taking that quick single.

Are all posts I hope I do not use tonight.
