It doesn't get much air play (unlike the Franklin pick) but unreal looking back that Melbourne took Scully and Trengove over Dutsy.

That leaves only 4 players from the top 10 in that draft still playing (Dusty, Cunnington, Rohan & Melksham)

Fyfe went pick 20 so highlighting Melbourne's choices isn't all together reasonable, every club had a shocker that year.

Actually 20-40 is probably stronger in retrospect than the top 20 - Duncan, Gunston, Gawn, Reid, Carlisle, Colyer, Astbury, Christensen

Shows how little difference between the top 40 there is.

To be fair to Melbourne Scully was really killing it before he pissed off to GWS and got injured, I reckon they made the right pick there at the time.

Trengrove as well could of been. Anything if it wasn't for that foot injury.

Both were good picks at the time and if they didn't get injured could have elite with the tools they had. Sometimes it's just not how it works though.

Port won't be successful this year, too much focus on film festivals

Probably be another 6000 before we win another too.
Funniest part is still having a more recent flag than half the clubs in the comp whose fans trot that stat out :)

It's exactly why it's funny because they feel the need to remind all those clubs.

It doesn’t really bother me because we have been a horrible side and a basket case for 20 years. Not one of those years that we made finals were we a realistic chance of winning a flag. When you scrape into 7th or 8th there is a fair chance you will be playing a final interstate and the rest is history.
I go into every year now not having any expectations but this year should be at least fun to watch some kids get games even if we cop some decent beatings and win only a couple of games
