Need more from Smith too.

They day we think a gritty 38 until we get out to a soft catch in the gully is ZoK we should stop being a test nation.

He was in and set, his dismissal started the collapse

Heads performance this test was embarrassing, Wayne Phillips (the Victorian) looked more accomplished

Head will stay. Two changes for the 3rd Test. Warner for Burns and Pattinson for Starc.

Lol he came in at 3/38, second top scored in an partnership that got the Aussies back in the game and you’re calling him embarrassing.

Smith caught at leg slip and then bowled around his legs was worse... Wade trying to slog sweep in the first was worse.. Burns both innings was worse.

Hang on a minute. Wade's dismissal in the first innings was deplorable. He set the standard. Head was out to some good bowling by a world class bowler. Wade was much better today, but too little too late .... unless you're happy with a patient 40. FWIW I think both will play the next test. Langer will not make wholesale changes.

Agree Wade 1st innings was soft

Yes Head made runs in the 1st innings but F*** both his dismissals were soft.

Compared to Wade Labachagne and Smith, Head hadn’t got as many credits. IMO.

Take your SA glasses off, you mob
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Head deserves his spot.

It was only 3 Tests back when Head made a century and was Man of the Match = CREDITS

Think you will find that hotspot doesnt always show up. I remember early days when ch9 had snicko but it wasnt an official tool of the 3rd umpire that players were reviewing caught behinds even though they knew they hit it because there was a chance on faint nicks that hotspot wouldnt show up

Heads in some trouble if Green can make some runs today. Head averages 26 over his last 16 innings if he has credits our standards are at all time lows.

Wade offers the grit, fight and determination that I think Langer would love having in his side. In the opposite sense i reckon every time Head gets out Langer is probably throwing a helmet across the changeroom.

Head has all the talent in the world (proven by his ability to get 'in' more often than not) but really seems to struggle to have the concentration level required against the really good sides. Keep in mind by the third test the NZ bowling line up was Henry, de Grandhomme, Wagner, Sommerville, Astle.

His series scores against NZ were as below, 2 good innings and 3 failures hardly the stuff that gives you CREDITS. Throw in the Ashes series, Pakistan series, and the start to this Indian series and he probably gets a pass mark for 4 of his last 16 innings.

The problem with dropping him or anyone for that matter is that no one is playing shield cricket atm. That "form" line starts to be 4 or more weeks ago.

We play shield cricket to develop test players which is the main game yet no shield cricket is being played now to support the test side.

Imagine if we applied the same standard?

Test average after 18 Tests:
T Head 40.66
D Warner 39.47
M Hayden 38.83
M Clarke 38.81
S Smith 38.45
R Ponting 37.25
M Waugh 36.00
I Chappell 33.45
S Waugh 29.39

How many of them were dropped at some point???

Hayden, Clark, Smith, Ponting all definitely were yeah.

I'm not sure anyone is saying Head's career is done, but he just has to find a way to stop the soft dismissals once in against the good sides.

I think for perspective you would also need to compare who each other played against eg Im guessing Hayden and Waugh x 2 played a lot of their first 18 tests against the great west indian pace attacks, Clarke began his career on the sub continent.

Also how old were each when they reached there 18 tests. Head is now 26. I feel like but could be wrong Ponting, Clarke, S.Waugh, Smith, Hayden and Chappell were all under 23 when they debuted in tests.

Agree about being dropped. Just read that many players actually find it a relief! I looked up (quickly) for comparison (not a rebuttal)

Clarke did start in India and averaged 58 after 4 tests.

Waugh did not face the Windies until his 22nd test.

Hayden faced the Windies twice. First time avg 30, second time (after being out of the side for 3 years) avg 23 (Aus won 5-0). He went to India (test 14-16) and avg 64.

It is never a case of just how many.

Anyone else reckon that our batters are starting to bat like Langer? Trying to grind out an innings and taking away their natural attacking game?

To a point yes but I think that's dictated a lot by the Indian bowlers and their quality. This is the best bowling attack in the world other than ourselves.

In recent series against NZ, Pak & SL we batted with lots of flair and attacking prowess.

It also shows how much we miss and rely on Warner.
Our run rate has been ordinary this series.
