I always thought it was 1,419 goals for North plus 81 in state games making a total of 1,500.
However Wikipedia, the SANFL website and the NAFC History site all say different things. Perhaps RIG can confirm the correct figures.
What I do know is that he put 23 past Torrens in 1940.
Rather than his goalscoring having much to do with the out-of-bounds rule, I think he probably benefited from his marking ability in an era which favoured taller rather than shorter forwards, in contrast to the far lower-scoring early part of the twentieth century.
A phenomenally consistent effort considering that, as you pointed out Mal, in most seasons he wouldn't have played more than 17 matches.

He scored 393 goals at an average of 5.04 per game in his brief but brilliantly performed career
He started off playing for WA where he scored 13 goals in 9 games
He excelled at SA where he added 380 goals in 69 matches
Diddy made the SA team of the century at full forward
Diddy averaged a sensational 5-5 goals per game for SA
Im wondering why he only played 78 games out of a possible 136 Minor round games + finals

1964 SA premiership , there was an omen for this premiership

Could be about right.
Based on some very brief SA vs Vic footage that surfaced last year, I thought he might have been a similar type of player to Allen Jakovich.

But would they know who they would have been tied to if Woodville hadn't come into the competition. ZipZap would have been 8 when the boundaries changed to include Woodville and Dettman would not have been born. I was told that Ralph Sewer came from the Wingfield area which had always been Port area up to 1959.
I don't know where Dettman came from.
I am sure that is what the great Mal wants to know. To which club they would have been tied.

I too, always thought that he scored 1,419 goals but there is a school of thought that in one match he scored 4 goals and another player, perhaps, Cappy Rix, scored 6 goals and it was incorrectly recorded as 6 instead of 4.
My "uncle" played 70 games with Ken and he told me a couple of stories about Ken's ability. He wasn't so much a high flyer, but more a very, very strong mark. At training he would hold the ball in one hand and dare players to punch the ball from his hand.
He also had the ability to snap goals over his head, similar I guess to the soccer bicycle kicks.
When the book, the Farmer Files was launched I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch. I met his great friend and adversary Tom Warhurst senior at the launch. I asked him about Farmer, he reiterated what had been told about Ken, the vice like grip and the ability to snap freak goals. Without having seen Ken play I imagine he was a cross between Dunstall and Daicos.
Tom Warhurst told me also that Schultz, who he of course played with, was more of an aerialist.
I hope someone interviews that great journalist, Gordon Schwartz, who at 98 years of age, would be one of the last people who would be old enough to have seen Ken Farmer and Bruce Schultz.
