Most courageous player to have played AFL IMO.

He might’ve been a “really good bloke” & a “great teammate” but his inclusion only reaffirms by belief the HOF should be every 2-3 years. His selection is right up there with Dean Kemp & Simon Goodwin.

I'm guessing you'd say Archer?

I agree. By the time you and I leave this mortal coil there will be 200+ HoF inductees and it feels like we're adding players in just for the sake of adding players in.

Lots of players could be considered "tough" in a multitude of ways.
Anyone tougher than Jason McCartney play the game at AFL level? What about Jarryd Roughead beating cancer to play again? For mine they might be the two toughest players to ever play the game but they're not what you'd consider tough guys on the field.
Is someone like Campbell Brown tougher than Michael Wilson? Brown was rough and tough, Wilson played a finals series and premiership with two shoulders popping out almost weekly.
Is Bryon Pickett tougher than Paul Kelly? Pickett laid the biggest nastiest bumps in the modern game but is that tougher than Kelly who never shirked a contest.

He is in the conversation, but more so than McCartney? I don't think there's a more courageous story, one that required more physical and mental toughness than what McCartney went through.

I just have my geelong coloured glasses on. I know Selwood cops some flack for being a ducker etc, but he doesn't shirk an issue. I'm sure there are plenty of people who have been more courageous though so no issues with McCartney getting the accolades.

Fair enough, you admire the blokes you watch the most of. For mine there's few I've seen tougher than Michael Wilson, at SANFL and AFL level he never missed when it was "his turn to go" and his 2004 finals series is one that should be heralded. He had both shoulders reconstructed after the GF win, he had them both pop out several times during the finals, he was literally held together with tape for that month.
