Port Adelaide 2020

Talk on the national game

UNCORK the champagne. Strike up the band, as they did in 1870 for Port Adelaide games. The moment has come. April 20 - the day, 150 years ago, when three men started a football club - and no ordinary football club.

John Albert Rann.

Richard William John Leicester.

And George Henry Ireland.

It was a Wednesday. They met at North Parade at Port Adelaide. They had a vision for their growing community, its people - and the new game of Australian football that was less than a decade-old in Adelaide.
PAFC. Forever.

I didn't know there was a CIBO's there in 1870?

Ken is staying on Next year

https://www.afl.com.au/news/392119/from ... next-year-

While Hinkley has a finals clause in his contract to trigger a one-year extension for 2021, chairman Koch said that with the disrupted AFL season – and the Power’s emerging list – that might not come into the club’s reckoning.

“As far as I am concerned Ken will be coaching next year,’’ Koch said in a major show of faith in the club’s eight-year mentor.

“We are incredibly confident of the team that we have now got going forward.

“We have performance triggers in virtually all of the contracts with people who work for us because we are a performance organisation.

“Because that trigger clause is there it doesn’t mean it will be triggered at all.

“It just means there is an opportunity if the club agrees and wants to do it.“

I think all clubs would want a sense of stability atm, a no brainer.

I read it that Koch is confident we'll play finals and the clause won't need to be used.

I tend to agree with you as well, not an ideal time to make wholesale changes, KT had already made it clear 2020 was his last year and the coaching department will be depleted next year, is it the right to to bring in a new coach and have less coaches under him?

We don't actually know yet if we'll play again or not. It's only planning at the moment, if there's an outbreak of COVID in June in the depths of winter who knows what is ahead.

The interview I heard was that Kochie and the crew were more than happy with his recruiting over the past couple of seasons and thinks we have a good list moving forward.

True, straight down the line with that one, clearly in a bad mood at the moment is old Kochie.

Really? Malthouse is one of the biggest floggers in the AFL in recent times.

Kochie is no legend but you're really pinning your medals on a washed up sook.

He is one from the left field is Mick, and I agree he doesn’t appear the greatest bloke going around.

But I guess I wasn’t surprised by Mick saying he’d take tradition over $$$. But I was surprised by Koch’s reaction.

I think If Koch had his time again he’d choose his words differently.

It was a pretty funny though. I’ll give Koch that :-)

Thomas apparently offered at a recent board meeting to continue as CEO until the end of 2021, not leaving at the end of 2020 as first planned.
