Bugger, I think the NT is the test case for the rest of us getting back to normal

They had only had 28 cases for the whole pandemic previously.

Front page of the NT news today claims that May 15 is the day....Dutchy wrote:Lightning McQueen wrote:

All with origins overseas apparently. Spoke with a pub owner up there yesterday, they are hoping to reopen mid month.

Pag wrote:Quick update re: school for any interested.
Had 14 students all week out of my class of 30, other 16 learning from home. Day 1, system goes, down state-wide, basically a write-off of a day.. I have been able to space my kids a school out to one kid per double desk though (even though we've been told we don't have to apparently, as social distancing is now not a thing). Kids have mostly adapted well, had plenty of issues Monday while it was down and a bit on Tuesday morning, but flowed a bit better since. We have three face-to-face meetings a day explaining what the next block of learning is looking like with the explicit teaching component, then off they go until the next meeting a couple of hours later. Have had 29 out of the 30 kids engaged with this, one I haven't heard from all week. All resources and instructions are posted through the online platform for all kids to grab, use and then hand up when complete. I am one of the lucky ones, as my Year 6s (mostly) all have their own device and so it has been equitable for all. Our R-5s don't have a device each and so the difference between home and school would be more stark, back to purely face-to-face on Monday. Our primary playground (on the oval) has been roped off shut, but our junior primary playground inside the yard has remained open. No student has been able to engage with regular outside-the-classroom support for Numeracy, Literacy or Wellbeing. Choir, Music Lessons, Cooking Lessons all remained cancelled.
Around the rest of the place, the high school campus have 10-12 staff out indefinitely and on Monday/Tuesday were not able to find relief teachers to replace. Chaos. Six regular classes merged into one big space of 60-80 kids with four teachers. Not ideal when you've purposely put some kids in separate classes due to ongoing issues. Kids all doing different work, from different subjects, for different teachers, with the teachers supervising not always being able to help (ie a Drama teacher might've had a Year 11 Physics kid sitting in front of her). Some staff basically referred it to as the 'new pub', 80 people sitting around socialising, as there we not alot of accountability. By Wednesday, the HR process had moved along and the school was able to replace those teachers with short-term contracts so they went back to normal lessons.
The playground still in use is wiped down between recess and lunch I think?
My classroom door handle and light switch gets wiped down by a cleaner once a day. I still only have a tiny 50mL hand sanitiser for myself and my class.
It's been different, chaotic at times while we were getting set, but I've actually found I'll use a fair bit of what I've had to learn and put in place, even when this is all over and done with.

We really are the lucky country.
Blessed that we live on a big island.
The way we've handled this crisis makes me feel proud of our country and most of the people.
Our health system, while still has issues, has handled it pretty well.
Both the government and opposition have made the right calls mostly at the right time.
Thank f#ck I'm an Aussie!
Our health system is without question as good as any in the world and it's free.

All jokes aside, it was a ridiculous scenario
I did major damage to my shoulder on Friday night outside footy season
Tried to get an x-ray anywhere in SA.
Sportsmed didn't do x-rays on the weekend
Rang my sports doctor (who had left Sportsmed) and he said you can only get an x-ray in one of the hospitals outside of footy season.
Rang the RAH. Minimum 8 hour wait!
I flew back to Sydney on Monday morning and walked straight into an x-ray clinic and got it done - bulk billed!
