Correct, they have moved to delivering lessons online. The school will remain 'open' but most parents are voting with their feet and preferring to have their children take up the online option, it would appear.
No one ever said they were totally closing; just that they have created the option for students to now work from home, if parents wish. Brodlach, you appear to be in the know. What proportion of Unley High students are attending phyisical classes today?

I delivered my first 'totally online' lesson today; even played a kahoot with the students. All worked smoothly and we enjoyed one another's company.

Not too bad, Jase; similar to Iggies. How are you finding delivering lessons both physically and online?

I cannot tell you today but Monday and Tuesday was around 30% in class. I know one online lesson right now that normally has 27 students there are 7 logged in. I’m not really “in the know” TBH, just telling what I do know (if that makes sense)

Studies have shown that most schoolchildren are asymptomatic.

Most school parents are in the20-39 year old age groups.

Possible connection??

On another note:
Schools in "Singapore have started closing down.

'two of Singapore’s largest international schools have decided, unilaterally, to close and move to online learning.'

'However, we have now reached the point where we feel we should move to remote learning.

Huh?

A few pages back it was only Mexico and Australia with open schools (due to their religious leaders)

My bad: Singapore aren't in the OECD

Hey, I'm not a teacher, I work in the IT department, so we are getting everything ready from a tech perspective to allow the online delivery.

Mrs Jase is a Year 7 Pastoral teacher here and she is actually only missing 2 students at the moment, there are a number who are also finishing up coming into school after today, but she is pretty switched on so she will be fine.

Numbers rose markedly at Iggies today: up to 25% now. Numbers of Year 12's missing rose from 7 to 12.

As said I go to source pages for the facts on CoVID 19 https://www.health.gov.au/resources/publications/covid-19-cases-in-australia-by-gender-and-age updated to 24/03/2020

The chart shows less than 2.5 % of cases effect those under the age of 20 and despite what is being sprouted on here there is no real difference in the distribution of the cases amongst the 20-69 year age groups (using a 10 year category distribution on the x axis)

The actual risk of getting COvID-19 at schools in minimal at this point in time.

However post school holidays that may change hence why trying to keep some degree of normality for as long as possible.

Our biggest risk of getting CoVID-19 is through idiots not practicing social distancing or good standard precautions.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

To a large extent, I will accept that, and I am sorry for my ranting and raving.
I guess that, as I am currently in self-isolation awaiting results from testing, I am a bit on edge. Being 55, diabetic, overweight (sorry), with respiratory problems and sleep apnoea, I am a bit fearful. I want to do everything I can for my students, but, for perhaps the first time in my life, I am selfish and nearly as worried about my own life as theirs.
Sorry

So the eldest son works at Coles in the freezer section and he discovered last night that one of the girls he has been working closely with has been in close contact with someone at Uni who has tested +ve.

He is at home for the next couple of days doing online learning (he's in Year 12) though he did just send me a photo of the assembled gymastics bar we ordered for one of the girls that arrived today and decide to setup.

We have had conversations with the Principal and Middle School Director and they have advised we don't need to Self Isolate (Yet)...

Confusing as to what we do...
