With competitions that have brought in one day games across the board this has often been one of the motivating factors.

Otherwise you routinely get 'better' cricketers playing in the lower one day grades.

There's f*** all you can do about it too, you'd rather blokes playing cricket than not playing at all and some don't fancy standing in the field for 70 overs on a Saturday when it's stinking hot.

Anyone know why Dublin A grade declared last week and handed one tree hill second spot? Suspecting there might be something going on down there. Maybe have made a behind the scenes deal with one tree hill giving them a home final

I reckon I could name on one hand the amount of players B&L that play below their capabilities. I have no answer as to why. The one day comps are pretty bad standard, maybe that's why? As an older player I love the 65 over 2 day cricket of the lower grade 2 day comp. Most days are 1pm til about 4 45 or 5pm at the latest. One day comp you could be there until 7pm if both teams face the 40 overs.

Yeah, I've spotted a few during my Sunday morning borry and flicking through the scores, then you get blokes like Rod Brown or Travis Opitz that put their hands up to play A's.

It was the 2nd innings, at a guess I'd say that they filled out mycricket incorrectly, I'd say that they faced their 38 overs and should be entered as CC.

Nothing untoward, you're just not allowed to declare behind the other teams score.

16 year old Cooper McInnis hit 200 in the juniors today and then went on to hit a 100 for Salisbury West A grade

Fair day out!

Another gun coming through SW.

Strong rumour there is a meeting tomorrow night to discuss whether finals will be played.

Word is they will be canned with top teams awarded the premiership.

Not sure why they would but the source should be on the mark

Interesting if true.. would be a devastating way to end the season for the 3 other sides in each grade still alive - although most minor premiers are streets ahead of the rest.

I actually wouldn't be against the top side being awarded the premiership in the future - would make sure clubs/players were more committed during the season, and you'd find those blokes who rock out after christmas if their side is looking good wouldn't be able to do so with as much ease.

Would also stop clubs/sides from trying to manipulate results and/or teams to either get lower grades into the finals or get the draw they'd like for 1st week of finals. Hard to see clubs contriving results in the last round as well.

Also, with the footy/cricket seasons running so close back to back, the removal of finals would at least allow a couple week break before Round 1 of footy.

Perhaps associations could schedule rep matches over that two week period if they really wanted to fill the space - played on a Saturday, no teams playing so all players available and it's not Sunday cricket so a bonus.

Playing finals cricket is a career highlight for most players and a large reason why people play the game (that plus washouts and Mad Monday). Wouldn't like to see it go to a 1st past the post thing.

Surely these 11 v 11 non-contact battles in front of 5 spectators can continue with a social distancing modification or two?

Heard about the no saliva on the ball thing.. but seriously on the weekend we were more likely to pick up some other disease from collecting the ball off the filthy road most the day. 8)

SA Footy Grade 2 Medal
LEADERBOARD after ROUND 14
18 - J. Hibbett (NP)
15 - A. Smith (OTH)
12 - L. Goss (D)

Congratulations to Jamie Hibbett - winner of The Bedge's SA Footy Grade 2 Medal.

I had Gravy polling in 9/13 games, thanks largely to his power hitting and being an all-rounder constantly in the game.

He finished the season with 682 runs @ 40.1 including 1x 100 and 4x 50's, and collected 29 poles @ 14.9 with 2x 5Wi.

508 of his runs came in boundaries.
