So is it only when both parties agree to move him on that AFC would pay part of the contract? I've seen players like Cloke for instance have part of his salary paid by Collingwood yet play for the Bulldogs.

Pretty much. If the Crows didn't have much interest in keeping Betts they'd hang onto him due to what they're bound to pay him - But if they could let him go elsewhere and pay only a portion of his wage they'd still be financially better off if he doesn't feature in their plans.

Thanks JK, MW. I'm not sure how this will pan out with Betts but I'll be keeping a close eye on it. Either way, if we grab him for a 3rd rounder I'd be ok with it, as long as we're not paying overs for him $ wise.

IF the Crows were happy to move him on you'd think it's purely for $$/Cap relief and they wouldn't be expecting much by way of a draft pick (albeit they'd try for as much as they could get). Carlton should hold the upper hand - They don't need him as such, so could relatively low-ball on Salary you'd think.

Besides the Menzel and Gibbs trades, we've been reamed by Adelaide (not Adelaide's fault!) so it'd be nice to get one back (ooh er).

I think Carlton drew a line in the sand during the Gibbs discussions over the years to not get bent over by Adelaide again, so I wouldn't think AFC would expect any favours

Agreed. We had the upper hand in the Gibbs deal and dealt with it with intent which I was happy about. Previously we'd accepted whatever Adelaide threw at us.

I can name the trades we've 'won' over time on one hand.

I think crows would of done well to get a 3rd for Betts.

I think SOS would be thinking more of a 5th rounder.

Have heard Port are looking at taking him as DFA.
The same person that told me that did also say Laird had a medical at Port this week though so not sure weather i believe him on this occasion or not. Also mentioned other things that are in the works at Alberton

It’s trade time and for 14 teams there is nothing else to discuss

I would of thought that obvious for a need to know it all
