My question is why even bring them up at all? Why not just wait till your in power to make a change like that?

Negative gearing was probably the only major policy they had and it's easy to be attacked on that

In hindsight, Labor's internal polling is known as the best in the business and by the looks of things they knew they were going to lose from the start hence appealing to their base/attacking the Libs base. It makes a bit of sense now in hindsight putting such a big target on your back like that if you know you need to go for broke.

One thing that puzzled me early in the campaign was Shorten following Morrison around everywhere they were campaigning in the exact same area in Tassie at one point and I thought that was weird as all the polls & betting markets had Labor romping it in. The ALP obviously knew and were on the defensive from the get go.

Last night I turned the TV on around 10pm expecting Labor to already have it in the bag by then to see the LNP on 74 seats to Labor's 66, my jaw hit the floor I've never been as shocked as this at an election result. The pollsters may never regain their credibility I mean betting agencies were already paying out on a Labor win on Friday. One guy bet $1 million on Labor, staggering stuff.
You need a great salesman to run a big item agenda like Labor's.

And Bill ain't ever been it.

You need a snake oil salesman to sell snake oil
He was the right bloke and crucified everything, and everyone, to get the chance.
Despite being a lefty, Albo would have shat it in.

In breaking news, Shorten is:
Moving to Sydney
Marrying a peasant girl instead
Changing religion to Pentecostal
Changing football teams to Cronulla
Changing parties to the Liberals
Challenging ScoMo for the Liberal party leadership

A true believer in every sense of the word

How come the polls kept giving Shorten the win every week?
This was not about the sales job.
It was just not the policies most Australians wanted.
Mind you the fact the majority didn’t trust Shorten didn’t help matters.

Final 2PP result was still within the 3% error, although it's obvious that polling methods are probably outdated now.

Labor policies resonated in SA and Vic, but the opposite in QLD which is where the election was lost really.

You're right though, if Albo was selling the story it's a different result. Bill was generally weak and didn't go hard enough on key points of difference.

The real question now is, given we've had zero percent wage growth for almost a year and sit in a per capita recession, will the LNP continue down this path and into a full recession over the next three years?

So where to from here?
Albo, Tania, Wong as leader or is there a bolter?

We need someone with a personality and I can't find one.

Plibersek is a good parliamentary performer and so is Wong.
Not sure about Albo.

Where do I see the overall swings per state? From what I can find, there were slight swings in Adelaide & Boothby but swings away from Labor everywhere else in SA

Why are the people getting so upset?

They do realise Bill was promising the world and would have delivered a 2nd hand atlas.

And its only 3yrs. Labor will win next election.

Yeah, I can't find the State by State 2PP either, we might have to wait until all votes are counted. But looking at the individual seats, the LNP does look likely to get the 2PP vote in SA.

Looks like Sharma knocked over Phelps too.

So, the good people of Wentworth will give the government a good kicking for getting rid of their prodigal son but rally round the flag if the bad guy in the black hat is about to rob them.

On election night the ABC said there was a swing towards lab in Victoria and NSW and SA were roughly the same as before but Qld Labor just got smashed, so it didn't matter what WA did

It’s my understanding that Victoria is the only “pro Labor” state with 1.5% swing which still wasn’t enough there to do any real damage - I think 2 seats moved.

I think a lot of people wanted meaningful action on the climate crisis, which won't happen with the re election of a party deeply embedded within the coal industry
