onto Royal Melbourne on Sunday, I woke up Sat morning with a very sore left wrist from Friday, unfortuantely this carried into Sunday and I hit the voltaran gel and tablets just to try and swing the club. Got it good enough to get around but it was very sore and was only hitting the ball about 80% power.
The member we were playing with was running late so our tee time was put back an hour, good chance to have a look thru pro shop and make a purchase as a momento, we then hit the driving range with a bucket of balls, I only hit 2 as my wrist was hurting and didn't want to do anymore damage.
Onto the 1st tee and had a chat to the official starter, you need to play your round in 4 hours 10mins or the member will get a warning, 2 warnings in a month and you get a formal letter which then leads to a suspension if it continues! We had 3 visits during the round to check up on us.
Playing with a member was great as he gave us all the tips and where to aim etc as there are quite a few blind tee shots and a heap of dog legs.
Gladly we all hit the fairway on the 1st, thankfully it was very generous, but as was the case most of the day we were hitting low irons or hybrid's in for our 2nd shots as most par 4's were 380-410m range!
The greens were probably the toughest I have ever encountered, despite middle of July they were hard as a rock and very similar to turf cricket pitches. You could not hold an irons on the greens and needed to land short if you wanted to hit the green. They were also very quick. A great challenge.
Anyway I hit a 106 with 5 lost balls! the rough was pretty unforgiving, I parred the 10th which was my highlight.
A quick beer in the clubhouse post game was pretty awesome also, overall a great day!
